Meet Harriet! Harriet is one of our amazing librarians in Imvepi. When she first heard of the library, she was intimidated by it. The building looked big and maybe not for people like her -- a mother working to support her family. But she was interested to learn more from our friends at Hope Rising because she wanted to help the community.

Harriet quickly became an essential part of our CLH team. One of her most amazing initiatives has been running a women's group that teaches knitting, crafting, and literacy, with the hope that the women can use their skills to generate income and support their children. 82% of people in Imvepi are women and children! Yet women they are the least literate population, often the heads of the households, and lack employment opportunities. We believe that community change starts with empowering powerful women like Harriet.

Today marked the resumption of the Children's Art Therapy at Rhino Camp Zone, featuring significant participation from the children and an enriching learning session for everyone involved. ❤️

Introducing one of our beloved CLH young artists: Meta Richard. "Art takes away my stress," Meta told us after months of regularly visiting CLH Imvepi to draw and learn photography + videography. Meta is a teenager in Imvepi, who came to Uganda from Yei, South Sudan in 2017. He is known to many as a gifted artist, having won a national competition for art in Uganda and grown up always drawing. He learned photography and videography last year and documented scenes from all over Imvepi refugee settlement. He was one of our very first visitors at the library, and he immediately started drawing, painting, and creating amazing 3D paper art.

We love Meta so much and are proud to know him as a talented young artist. You can find his artwork on our postcards, which are available to order at our link in bio! Every postcard directly contributes to keeping our libraries open and making art supplies, books, and de-stressing time available to young talented people like Meta. Iyete Meta!
