BARROW COUNTY OFFICES TO CLOSE FOR WINTER WEATHER

Barrow County Government offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 26 due to the ongoing hazardous travel conditions in the area.

This includes Barrow County’s administrative offices, courts, senior center, animal shelter and facilities at Victor Lord Park.

“As citizens continue to see freezing rain, sleet and ice in our area, we encourage them to sign up for emergency alerts, ensuring they receive timely and accurate information,” said Sharon Courson, Barrow County Emergency Management Director. “Citizens are also encouraged to utilize a weather radio, providing another key lifeline to important weather information during this storm, which could bring prolonged power outages to our area.”

During the weather event, essential public safety and public works personnel will remain on duty. Citizens reporting non-life-threatening emergencies, such as downed trees or power lines, should call non-emergency lines at any of the following phone numbers:

As always, life threatening emergencies such as house fires, injury or other imminent danger should be reported via 911.

Unless otherwise noted, Barrow County will resume normal operations Tuesday, Jan. 27.

BARROW COUNTY OFFICES TO CLOSE FOR MLK DAY

Barrow County’s administrative offices, courts, senior center, and animal shelter will be closed Monday, Jan. 19 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Buildings and athletic fields will be closed at Victor Lord Park, though the park itself will remain open. Batting cages, tennis and pickleball courts will be available. Citizens are reminded that fields 1-5 and 13-14 are closed for construction through Jan. 31.

The Barrow County Water office will be closed, but essential staff will remain on duty. Citizens reporting a residential water emergency may do so by calling (770) 307-6610 to be connected with appropriate on-call staff. A wastewater emergency may be reported to (770) 298-9527. All other calls may go to the office line at (770) 307-3014.

Essential public safety personnel will also remain on duty during the holiday.

BARROW COUNTY OFFICES TO CLOSE FOR COLUMBUS DAY

Barrow County’s administrative offices, courts, senior center and animal shelter will be closed Monday, October 13 for Columbus Day.

Buildings and athletic fields will be closed at Victor Lord Park on Oct. 13, though the park itself will remain open during the holiday. Batting cages, tennis and pickleball courts will be available. Athletic events scheduled for Oct. 13 will proceed as scheduled.

Early voting for the municipal and Public Service Commissioner elections will not begin until Tuesday, Oct. 14 due to the holiday.

The Barrow County Water office will be closed, but essential staff will remain on duty. Judge Robert Gardner just completed a 9 day Civil Jury Trial, possibly the longest in Barrow County history, that resulted in a 50-50 verdict. We truly appreciate all the hard work of our panel of jurors, court reporters, Debbie Seymour and Becky Pearrow, the 3 amazing Bailiffs, Terry Thrasher, Art Wesley and Steve Mutchler, Court Security (Sheriff’s Department), and the Clerk of Court, Janie Lewis Jones and her staff.

UPDATE: Barrow County offices to open at 10 a.m. Thursday

Due to the continued low temperatures and possibility of hazardous conditions early in the day, most Barrow County offices will open at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23. The Barrow County Senior Center will remain closed for the entire day.

The delayed opening includes Barrow County’s administrative offices, courts, animal shelter and facilities at Victor Lord Park.

The delay will allow for Barrow County work crews to properly treat building entrances, parking lots and other high traffic areas to ensure the safety of visitors and employees.

“Once again, I’d like to extend my deepest gratitude to the men and women of Barrow County Roads and Bridges, Fire Department, E-911 and Sheriff’s Office for their selfless work during this winter storm. On Tuesday evening alone, Barrow County responded to 391 calls for service,” said Srikanth Yamala, Barrow County Manager.

Unless otherwise noted, Barrow County is expected to resume normal operations Friday, Jan. 24.

UPDATE: BARROW COUNTY OFFICES CLOSED ALL DAY WEDNESDAY

Due to the continued impact of winter weather, Barrow County offices will be closed for the entire day Wednesday, Jan. 22.

Citizens are advised to remain off the roads, as conditions remain hazardous, especially on hilly roads and side streets.

“I’d like to ask Barrow County to join me in thanking our selfless public safety and public works personnel, including Roads and Bridges, Sheriff’s Office, Fire Department, and E-911 employees, who worked tirelessly through the night to keep the citizens of Barrow County safe,” said Srikanth Yamala, Barrow County Manager.

Further updates will be provided if schedule changes are needed on Thursday, Jan. 23.
