This week is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, and we want to take a moment to recognize a group of professionals who are absolutely critical to everything we do, but rarely seen by the public.

Our dispatchers are the calm voice in the middle of someone’s worst day. They are the first to answer when help is needed and the steady presence behind every call for service. They gather information, make split second decisions, and ensure officers have what they need to respond safely and effectively.

Here in Windham, we are fortunate to have an outstanding team of dispatchers who take pride in their work and care deeply about this community. Their professionalism, composure, and dedication do not go unnoticed.

To our Windham Police Department dispatchers, thank you for everything you do, day in and day out. You are an essential part of this department and this community, and we are grateful for your commitment and service.

❗🚨🚨🚨 TRAFFIC ALERT🚨🚨🚨❗

The 🏃2026 Cheap Marathon🏃‍♀️, organized by Millennium Running, will take place on the Windham/Derry Rail Trail this Saturday, April 4.

The race will be held along the rail trail from the Salem town line into Derry and will cross the following roadways in Windham:

• Roulston Road
• Windham Depot Road
• Frost Road
• N. Lowell Road

Police officers will be stationed at each of these intersections to assist with runner and motorist traffic.

Road Closure:
Roulston Road will be closed at 5:00 AM between Jones Road and Industrial Road and will remain closed during the event.

Motorists should expect increased traffic volume in the above areas and along Route 111. Please use caution when traveling near the race route. Consider using alternate routes to avoid delays.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we support this event and help ensure the safety of all participants and residents.

This past week, Sergeant Van Hirtum successfully completed the FBI-LEEDA Trilogy Series, a nationally recognized leadership program made up of three core courses: Supervisory Leadership Institute, Command Leadership Institute, and Executive Leadership Institute.

Each course is designed to strengthen law enforcement leaders through:
• Tactical decision making
• Proven leadership frameworks
• Building trust and accountability within teams
• Developing a strong national network of law enforcement professionals

FBI-LEEDA, the Law Enforcement Executive Development Association, is dedicated to advancing the science and art of law enforcement leadership through training, education, and collaboration across agencies nationwide.

In 2024, the Windham Police Department made a commitment to invest in our people by sending all supervisors at the rank of Sergeant and above through the FBI-LEEDA Trilogy. Sergeant Van Hirtum is the first member of our department to complete the full series.

This is exactly the type of professional development that strengthens our organization and directly benefits the community we serve.
