Peer-led recovery means learning from people who've walked the path. That's exactly what happened when our team joined colleagues across the region for a day of connection and growth.
On August 30, Sam and Chrystal represented Hope Town at Pathways to Wellness, a regional symposium hosted at Kent State University. Conversations spanned mental health, substance use recovery, lived experience, and what it takes to support the whole person—not just one piece of the challenge. Speakers like Roosevelt McNield, Maria Jacobs, Derick Polk, and Kristi Horner shared wisdom grounded in real experience. These events remind us why collaboration matters: recovery happens in community, and community grows when we show up and listen to each other.

Our Friday grillouts are back. And they're exactly what community looks like.
These afternoons bring staff and residents together around the grill, the table, and real conversation. It's one of those simple things that holds recovery housing together: time to connect, laugh, and belong without agenda. And we couldn't do it without people like Marcus, who shows up as our grill master every single week.

Once we brought it together, AI stopped being a buzzword and started being a coworker. Documentation that took hours now takes minutes. Questions that used to wait on one person's memory get answered instantly. Our staff spend their time with people, not paperwork.

Yesterday, we hosted visitors from several recovery organizations across northeast Ohio—and the conversations reminded us why this work matters so much.

They toured our housing, learned about our programs, and we got to hear about theirs. What stuck with us wasn't just the logistics of what everyone does, but the shared conviction underneath it all: that recovery is possible, that communities can build it together, and that we're stronger when we're connected. These are the relationships that make real change happen in our region.

Today we are honored to be visited by Erin Reed, Director of RecoveryOhio, coming directly from the Governor's office. We talked about the many moving parts happening across the recovery space at both state and local levels—there's a lot going on, and it matters. We're honored she showed up and was willing to have real conversations about how we serve the need here in Portage County. These are the kinds of exchanges that shape how we think about our work.
