Many of you have reached out to us about ongoing changes with the trails at Lowell Preserve. Our partners at the Presumpscot Regional Land Trust are overseeing the trail work, along with the help of many volunteers, and we appreciate all of their hard work!

The work at Lowell this fall is focused on making the trail network easier to navigate, signing and improving the through-trail for snowmobiles and ATVs, and improving other problem areas. There will be two main trail loops that offer a consistently wide trail and are clearly marked with plastic blazes. In the northern section there will be two connected networks of technical trails, which are more narrow, steep, and winding than the main trails, offering a different experience, and which have their own map and signage. The trail connection to the neighboring Blackstrap Preserve in Falmouth, popular with mountain bikers and trail runners, will also be maintained and improved.

We are looking for information about the individual(s) who built this bridge in Lowell Preserve. If you were involved with constructing this bridge and/or attempting to create trails in Lowell Preserve, or if you have any information about those who were, please contact Windham Parks and Recreation.

Windham Parks and Recreation works hard to maintain the trails and provide clear information to trail users. When outside entities create trails and structures without notifying our department, that leads to confusion for hikers and others using the Preserve.

It is our hope that we can work together to manage this property in a way that is functional for all trail users.
