Today, we recognize the Indian Citizenship Act of 1924, which granted U.S. citizenship to Native Americans.

While this was an important moment in history, citizenship did not immediately guarantee full voting rights, equal treatment, or fair representation. Native people continued to fight for their voices to be heard.

As the Office of Navajo Government Development has completed its educational presentations and public opinion collection on the Navajo Government Reform Proposal, we acknowledge the Navajo people who participated, asked questions, and shared their concerns.

This moment reminds us that civic participation is powerful. Our voices, our votes, and our responsibility continue to shape the future of the Navajo Nation.

The power remains with the Navajo People.

As we enter the weekend, the Commission on Navajo Government Development and the Office of Navajo Government Development would like to remind our Diné people of an important time in our history.

Monday, June 1, 2026, is Navajo Treaty Day. The Treaty of 1868 marks a significant moment in the recognition of Navajo sovereignty and the return of our people to our homelands.

This day represents the resilience, strength, and determination of the Diné people to return home, preserve our way of life, and continue forward as a sovereign Nation.

As we reflect on this historic day, we also recognize our continuing responsibility to protect Navajo sovereignty, strengthen Navajo governance, and uphold the collective will of the Navajo People.

The Office of Navajo Government Development remains committed to supporting the ongoing work of government reform and ensuring that the voices of the Navajo People guide the future of our Nation.

Ahéhee’ for your continued support.
