Today, the Navajo Nation Water Rights Team takes more steps forward in progress with the LeChee Water Systems Improvement Project. This project started back in the 1980s with various other milestones that made today possible. The history is significant, yet our previous Navajo leadership worked from local levels, to state to federal levels, which have brought us to this day. It takes many levels of leadership, starting from the local levels to get a project like this to today.

Today, Madam Speaker Crystalyne Curley, Navajo Nation Resources Development Committee Madam Chair Brenda Jesus, Honorable Vice-Chair Otto Tso, Honorable Delegate Herman Daniels, Honorable Delegate Helena Nez-Begaye, Masters of Ceremony, Honorable Navajo Nation Water Rights Commissioner Vice-Chair Earl Tulley, Navajo Nation Water Rights Commissioner Madam Chair Joelynn Ashley, LeChee Chapter President Irene Whitekiller, Steven Brenchley of Brown and Caldwell, Fred Jessop of B4Concrete, NTUA Government Liaison Mr. Marty Ashley, and many others that played a key role in working to get the Navajo Nation to this momentous milestone after working over four decades. The honorable elected officials from our previous executive, legislative branches and most importantly local Western Agency chapter leadership have made this day possible.
The Navajo Nation Water Legal, Technical and Policy team continues daily to work to towards securing, protecting and developing the Navajo Nations water rights on all fronts for the Navajo. Today, marked another milestone for that effort.
The Navajo Nation looks to the future to ensure the delivery of safe drinking water to all our Western Navajo citizens (18 Chapters).
Today was a good day. The Navajo Nation continues to work diligently to secure, protecting and develop our water for our people today and into the future.
The Navajo Nation still has work to do through the Northeastern Arizona Indian Water Rights Settlement Act (NAIWRSA) to ensure water security, the Navajo Nation LTT team continues on all fronts including to work on S.953 and H.R. 2025.
