SAVE THE DATE - August 27, 2026: DFSA Public Fire & Life Safety Educator's Conference

Approved for Fire Marshal CEU Hours

The 2026 Public Fire & Life Safety Educator's Conference is scheduled for August 27, 2026, at the Connecticut Fire Academy in Windsor Locks, CT. This full-day event ($35, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM) focuses on Public Education and Community Risk Reduction (CRR) practices, approved for Fire Marshal CEUs.

Day 3 | Connecticut Fire Academy Cadet Class 57

Another outstanding day of training for Cadet Class 57 as these future fire service leaders continued building the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to succeed.

Today’s hands-on training included:
• SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus)
• Maze training to build confidence and orientation in confined spaces
• Ladder carries and ladder climbs
• Search and rescue operations
• Wildland fire tactics and suppression

Each evolution challenged the cadets both physically and mentally while reinforcing teamwork, communication, and safety. Every day they continue to develop the skills, discipline, and work ethic that are the foundation of the fire service.

The future of Connecticut’s fire service is looking bright. Keep up the great work, Class 57!

Cadet Class 57 | Day 2
at the Connecticut Fire Academy

Day 2 challenged our cadets both physically and mentally as they continued building the foundation of a successful fire service career.

The day began with physical fitness training, reinforcing the importance of strength, endurance, and discipline. Cadets then spent the day on the training grounds developing essential firefighting skills, including hose line advancement, search and rescue techniques, and ladder carries, while continuing to build teamwork, communication, and confidence.

Every evolution reinforces that success in the fire service is built through hard work, repetition, and commitment. We are proud of the dedication and enthusiasm these future firefighters continue to demonstrate.

The future of Connecticut’s fire service is training today.

Day 1 of the Connecticut Fire Academy Cadet Program is underway!

Cadets kicked off the week with classroom sessions focused on fire service fundamentals, followed by an introduction to knot tying, water mapping, drill and ceremony. Cadets began to learn and develop the skills that firefighters use every day on the fireground.

The day also included a visit to the Connecticut Firefighters Memorial and Museum, giving cadets an opportunity to learn about the rich history, traditions, and sacrifices of Connecticut’s fire service.

This is just the beginning of a week filled with learning, leadership development, teamwork, and hands-on training as we continue to build the next generation of Connecticut firefighters.

Join us on Saturday, June 27th at 9:00 a.m. as we celebrate the program’s 30th Anniversary and recognize the graduates of our newest cadet class.

As Connecticut continues to experience dry conditions and elevated wildfire risk, it is more important than ever to increase awareness of the growing threat posed by Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) fires.

Following last year’s numerous wildfire incidents across Connecticut, firefighters, community leaders, and residents must remain vigilant and prepared. Recognizing this need, the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation has released a new Safety INSight video that helps educate both the fire service and the public on WUI fires, how they spread, and the advances being made to reduce future loss and destruction.

Education, preparedness, defensible space, and fire-resistant construction all play a critical role in protecting our communities.

Today marked the kickoff of the 2026 CT Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, Connecticut Fire Academy Cadet Program season.

Our day began with a full day of training for this year’s Junior and Senior Counselors. These leadership positions are highly sought after and require an application, oral board interview, and successful completion of both the Cadet Introduction and Advanced programs in previous years.

Throughout the day, counselors received training focused on leadership, mentorship, teamwork, safety, and their role in helping guide the next generation of cadets through a successful academy experience.

Investing in these young leaders is another important step in ensuring our cadet programs continue to provide meaningful experiences, develop future fire service leaders, and support positive recruitment efforts throughout Connecticut’s fire service.

We look forward to welcoming our first group of cadets and celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Connecticut Fire Academy Cadet Program this summer.
