This Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

As you gather with family and friends, keep safety in mind: never leave grills or fire pits unattended, keep a safe distance from flames, and ensure all embers are fully extinguished before calling it a night.

Celebrate, remember, and stay safe!

Per the National Fire Protection Association,
Between 2020-2024, nearly one-quarter of grill structure fires started on an exterior balcony or open porch. Eight percent began when an outside wall caught fire; 3% began with some type of structural member or framing.
According to data from the Consumer Product Safety Commission, in 2020-2024, an average of 21,682 patients per year went to emergency rooms because of injuries involving grills.
Protect yourself and your family by using caution when grilling and be aware of the hazards it presents!

Spring cleaning isn’t just about looks; it’s about safety, too.
Take a moment to clean out your dryer vents; clogged lint is a serious fire hazard that can be avoidable. While you’re at it, clear out excess clutter to reduce fire load and keep your home safer all season long. It is especially important to keep the doors clear for a safe exit.
Fire safety should not be an after thought, it needs to be a lifestyle!

Some great history about our outstanding fire department! While so much has change over the century, the root passion of protecting our community has not. We are beyond proud of how much we have learned, changed, and grown over the years and will continue to serve and advance for the better of our community!

The Wilson Fire District was founded in 1908 along with funds to buy a 30-foot extension ladder, a dozen 10-quart pails, one fire ax, and 150 feet of rope. The equipment was housed in a utility shed at the Wilson Brick Yard, whose kiln was responsible for half of all fires in town.

The old alarm system involved ringing the bell in the Congregational Church of Christ or someone running down the street yelling "fire". This method was later replaced by three sirens along Windsor Avenue. In 1926 property for this fire station was purchased from the Christensen & Rand farms and the building, designed in an English Tudor style, was dedicated in 1930.
