At approximately 10:20am on March 16, 2026, Windsor Fire was dispatched to a vehicle accident at the first curve, North of Windsor on IL RT 32.
Crews arrived to find a north bound semi-trailer truck jackknifed on the first curve causing both lanes of IL RT 32 to be blocked.
A single axle straight truck that was following the semi-trailer truck, was unable to avoid contact with the semi as it was in the process of jackknifing.
At the same time, a pickup truck and 16' trailer traveling south bound was struck in the side by the semi-trailer truck as it was jackknifing.
All occupants were out of their vehicles with no obvious significant injuries, one of the drivers was taken to an area hospital for further evaluation,
The scene was cleaned up and both lanes were open by 11:45am.

At approximately 6:30 pm on February 28, 2026, Windsor Fire was dispatched to a garage on fire that was attached to the house in the Village of G**s, Illinois.
The initial crew arrived to find the garage was fully involved and had started to spread to the connected house. Sitting on the north edge of town, with the garage on the north side of the house, and no trees or structures to the north to help slow down the harsh, 20mph winds out of the north; the fire quickly spread to the back side of the house and up onto the roof of the two story structure. Initial attack lacked any major impact as getting water up onto the fire was very difficult. Multiple departments were called to provide mutual aide assistance. With additional support, an aerial attack was established, the fire became more contained, and was eventually extinguished. The garage was completely destroyed while the house suffered significant damage as well. All responding departments were able to clear the scene at approximately 10:30pm.

Windsor Fire is very grateful for all who assisted:

Let's talk about Wireless Emergency Alerts.

When Wireless Emergency Alerts are sent through the FEMA IPAWS network, only those within the defined area of our choosing will receive the alert. An alert can include as much or as few residents as deemed necessary. It might include a large area of the county or a small area of a town including only a few homes. The picture below is just an example.

These are not texts. These are emergency push notifications that all modern cell phones are required to receive. We are limited to 360 characters for most phones. It's important we give you the necessary information in the shortest format possible.

Additionally, we cannot send a follow up message to the phones that have received the alert.

At this time, the best method of sending updates to citizens who have received the alert is via Facebook. We are updating our messaging to reflect where you can receive these updates.

You do NOT need a Facebook account to view these updates. All Shelby County pages are public, and anyone with a smartphone or computer can view these updates. For example, if you do not have a Facebook account, you can simply search for "ShelbyEMA Facebook" and follow the link.

Wireless Emergency Alerts allow us to warn the public of immediate dangers, without the need to sign-up for the service. It is the best way to ensure that people receive the message and a valuable tool to Shelby County.

Standard Alerts may still be utilized for non-emergency purposes. You can sign up for these alerts by texting "SHELBYCOUNTY" to 91896. However, we will always opt to use Wireless Emergency Alerts for any situations that immediately threaten your health and safety.

Thank you.

Stay Safe Shelby County.

On June 16, 2025 at approximately 830am, Windsor Fire was dispatched to a 1 vehicle roll over of a semi tanker, north of Windsor, IL on IL RT32. Upon arrival of the first units, it was observed to have been a south bound, small semi tank load of fertilizer, far less dangerous than was previously believed by responders. The fertilizer posed no serious threat to responders, the driver of the truck, bystanders, nor the community as a whole. Those arriving on scene first were able to help the driver out of the truck where Windsor Ambulance personnel on scene immediately took over patient care. There were no other vehicles or person involved, although there was a very close call for a north bound vehicle that narrowly missed colliding with the semi. ILRT32 was closed for several hours due to the extensive cleanup needed and to provide safety to all parties involved in those efforts. The road way was cleared and traffic flow restored at approximately 1pm June 16, 2025. We understand the driver of the truck to have suffered minor injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.
We would like to thank the community for being understanding of the imposition caused by such a lengthy road closure. We are also greatful for the help we were given by our neighboring departments.
