Windsor Technology Park Powers Up 1.5-Megawatt Rooftop Solar Array

Windsor, VT – Windsor Technology Park (WTP) recently added a 1.53-Megawatt solar photovoltaic (PV) system from Norwich Solar Technologies to the roof of their commercial and industrial facility. The solar project supplies lower cost renewable energy to the complex as well as the Living Well Group retirement communities and Thetford Academy.

WTP Managing Partners believe: “Windsor Technology Park, a unique multifunctional complex is an ideal location for solar arrays. The rooftop units will provide solar energy to our facility so we and the other businesses receiving power will benefit. We also see this project as an upgrade to our facility and attractive feature for future tenants. We are excited to be part of Vermont's alternative energy production initiative that will directly benefit our tenants, the investors, and our company.”

Besides cutting energy costs, WTP’s solar array will offset nearly 7.5 million lbs. of CO2, the equivalent of 60 million miles not driven or 400,000 trees planted.

About Windsor Technology Park
Update: June 2019 WTP announced the opening of a new Coworking space within the facility. See our webpage for details. Situated on the Grounds of Prominent American Manufacturers

The property is the former site of Cone Blanchard, a prominent machine tool manufacturer that built large grinding machines and multi spindle lathes. In the late 1990’s the facility was bought by a billionaire and underwent a significant capital improvement plan which added much value to the property and its buildings. At its peak the facility employed close to a thousand people per shift supporting the war effort. Trains ran through the building and through their efforts the company shipped machines, essential to the war effort, on a daily basis. The company enjoyed great success throughout its storied history until its purchase by a Chicago manufacturer which resulted in its move to Illinois. The property and buildings were purchased by the current owners in 2006 with the vision of developing a technology incubator, with ample office space; manufacturing and warehouse space all within the facility.
