Winter is upon us!! With the forecast calling for a dusting up to a foot of snow,
Please be patient with our first responders in responding to any emergency. We have to get to the station first and respond to the address in a safe manner. We also ask that if you have been sick all day, don’t wait until 1:00 in the morning to call. We have contacts for our road commissioners and they will do their best to ensure the roads are clear for Emergency Personnel but middle of the night will delay all care. Please be safe over the next several hours, weeks and months ahead as road conditions will vary each week and our safety is a priority when covering calls. We hope your family has a great and safe Holiday weekend!

On mornings like today, PLEASE turn on your headlights in fog! Visibility is very minimal and headlights help others see you approaching. Your taillights on also allows others to see you when approaching from the back. Auto headlights do not necessarily turn on your headlights and taillights. Reminder also to turn headlights on in the rain.

In June of 2025, Windsor Ambulance responded to a 911 call for an unresponsive patient. Our local providers responded to the call in a timely manner and were able to perform live-saving skills that successfully resuscitated the patient. The swift actions of our crew, along with the assistance of a paramedic from the Mitchell-Jerdan Ambulance crew, are a great testament to the services that our Windsor Ambulance team,
along with the partnerships of local agencies, provide to our community.

This past Monday evening at our recent monthly meeting, Windsor Ambulance Service Coordinators Josh Hartman and Duckie Johnson, along with the Director of EMS at Sarah Bush, Mike Schwenke, proudly presented members of our ambulance crew with certificates and challenge coins in recognition of their continued dedication to the service and the community. The crew members that were recognized were: EMR Darrin Storm, EMT Chris Blythe and Paramedic Amy Woodrum from Mitchell-Jerdan Ambulance.

While on this life-saving call, Storm, Blythe, and Woodrum successfully utilized one of the newest tools on the ambulance, the Zoll Auto-Pulse machine, that was received through funding from the State Fire Marshall Grant in 2024. We are thrilled to be able to recognize that the investments made into the Windsor Ambulance Service are providing life saving measures to our community members in such a critical time of need.

Congratulations to Darrin, Chris and Amy on another successful life-saving call!

Thank you all the services that assisted us along with the City of Windsor and Chris at Street Department for assisting with barricades for blocking the streets to prevent additional traffic.

Please remember to slow down when you see emergency vehicles and tow trucks.

Windsor Area Ambulance Service is excited to share some news! 🙌
Our service applied for a “State of Illinois Fire Marshall Grant” and was awarded just under $25,000 for the purchase of a Zoll Autopulse CPR unit. This unit allows hands-free CPR to be performed so that our providers are able to focus on and provide other life-saving skills. As we are a rural ambulance service with a full volunteer staff, this unit will be of great value if/when the need should arise. Our providers have already been trained on the CPR unit and are excited for the additional resources that it will provide to our service.
There are more exciting things coming to our ambulance service and communities soon so, be sure to stay tuned!

An unexpected tragedy occurred July 10th around 17:36 when Windsor Ambulance and Windsor Fire Departments were paged out to an ATV vs semi accident. Windsor Ambulance sent two ALS units to the scene along with Abbott Ambulance (from Shelbyville) who was also paged out, and Windsor Fire units were sent immediately to the scene.
Multiple lives were forever changed in an instant and families are now left to grasp at the understanding of “why?”. We know that our first responders, EMT’s, Paramedics and Fire Personnel did everything in their realm of possibilities and are hurting also along with our entire community.
Thank you to Windsor Fire Department, Abbott Ambulance, Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, Shelby County Rescue, Illinois State Police, Arch and Air Evac Services for their assistance and mutual aid during this tragedy. We also want to thank Christian County Dispatch for their efforts in getting all available resources to our personnel along with dealing with radio traffic across multiple agencies.
Our continued thoughts and prayers are pouring out to the families affected by this tragedy, including the driver of the vehicle that was involved. Please take time to show grace, love, and compassion to those around you always, but especially in the wake of this tragic event.
As we continue to grieve and heal from this incident alongside our friends, families, and communities, we respectfully ask that you don’t inquire about the accident with emergency personnel from the multiple departments. These individuals are receiving much needed assistance as they try to heal and gain closure from this tragedy; Windsor Ambulance and Windsor Fire are providing that service to those personnel that responded to the accident.
Our hope is that our communities are never faced with emergencies or tragedies such as the one that occurred on Wednesday evening, however, reality is that is does; it is in these instances that our communities must band together and stand strong. When these unfortunate tragedies do strike our communities, you can confidently rest-assured that your local emergency departments will respond and provide the very best care possible.
Thank you for your continued support for the Emergency Responders along with all families and friends that have been impacted by this tragic incident. Please continue to uplift all of these individuals in your prayers in the coming days.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Warren and Cole families in the passing of a husband, father, and grandparent. Frank was very instrumental in helping get the ambulance service started in Windsor. He also was a huge supporter of the service and his generosity was deeply appreciated in making the service what it is today. A great definition of a community member giving back to his community and wanting to see it succeed.
