Alright folks…

Tomorrow is the TRUE Winfield tradition everyone has been waiting for! (Okay, we got a little excited and posted early yesterday. We definitely didn’t want to mislead anyone about what the real morning traffic looks like, even though you got a dose this afternoon.) *drum roll*

SCHOOL TRAFFIC… AT ITS FULLEST!

If you thought traffic moved pretty smoothly this morning, just wait until EVERYONE starts at the same time tomorrow.

Give yourself some extra time, be patient, and remember: traffic jams are temporary, but being grouchy all day is a choice.

Drive safe, slow down, follow the laws of the road, and let’s make it a good full school-traffic day back!

Buckle up, Winfield…tomorrow is the REAL test.

DISCLAIMER: Before the “Just put the kids on the bus!” comments start rolling in…good thing parents have the right to decide how their kids get to and from school. So yes, there will be traffic. Yes, you may have to wait a few extra minutes. And yes…you’ll survive.

GOOD MORNING, WINFIELD!

It’s that time of year again…IT’S A SCHOOL NIGHT!

Which means tomorrow morning you get to experience one of everyone’s favorite traditions in Winfield: SCHOOL TRAFFIC!

If traffic isn’t your favorite thing, we have a crazy suggestion…GET UP EARLIER. Give yourself some extra time and start your commute a little sooner.

🚨 Pay attention in school zones. 15MPH!
🚨 Slow down.
🚨 Be patient.
🚨 Watch for pedestrians and yield at crosswalks.
🚨 Watch for school buses and their flashing lights.
🚨 Follow the laws of the road. It’s really that simple.

🚧Be advised the sidewalk project along Rt. 817, near the high school end, is still ongoing. Please, be patient.

Just take a deep breath, turn up the radio, and enjoy the morning traffic. After all, you’ve had all summer off.

We can’t wait to see everyone tomorrow morning! Let’s have a safe and successful school year.

Now, go enjoy the rest of your day, get some rest, and recharge those batteries…to get up early and give yourself some extra time.

Thank You, SROs, for Your Commitment to Our Students and Schools

Superintendent Mr. McGrew, Assistant Superintendent Mr. Harper, and Ms. Jennifer Miller met with our outstanding School Resource Officers to review school safety procedures and ensure everyone is informed, prepared, and ready for the upcoming school year.

We want to take a moment to recognize and sincerely thank our SROs for the extraordinary dedication, professionalism, and care they bring to Putnam County Schools every day. Their role extends far beyond school safety. They build positive relationships with students, serve as mentors and role models, and provide a reassuring presence in our schools.

The countless hours they invest in training, preparation, and collaboration help create safe and supportive learning environments where students can focus on growing, learning, and succeeding. Their unwavering commitment to the well-being of our students, staff, and families does not go unnoticed.

As we prepare to welcome students back for another school year, we are grateful for the partnership and service of our School Resource Officers. Thank you for your hard work, your vigilance, and your dedication to keeping every student in Putnam County Schools safe.

Recognizing Officer Arthur 👏🏻💪🏻

Today, we would like to recognize Officer Arthur for his quick thinking and life-saving actions.

While medical calls aren’t typically what police officers respond to, on August 13th, Officer Arthur decided to respond to one…and his actions made a difference.

Upon arriving on scene, Officer Arthur immediately recognized that a male was suffering significant blood loss from his leg. Without hesitation, he took action and used the belt he was wearing as a makeshift tourniquet, helping control the bleeding until Putnam EMS arrived.

Since the incident, the family has been in contact with the department and expressed their gratitude to Officer Arthur for his quick response and life-saving efforts.

We are proud to have officers who are ready to step up and help whenever they are needed. Great job, Officer Arthur!

Thank you for serving our community and for being prepared to make a difference when it matters most. 🇺🇸

📚BACK TO SCHOOL IS ALMOST HERE! 🏫

Winfield Police Department, and especially our Prevention Resource Officers, would like to welcome back all of our teachers and staff! We hope everyone has a safe, successful, and great school year!

Students…we’ll see you soon! We’re looking forward to seeing everyone and getting another great school year started!

As we prepare for students to return, here are a few important reminders:

DROP-OFF & PICK-UP: Please follow your school’s designated drop-off and pick-up routes and locations. These routes help keep traffic moving safely, especially along Winfield Road. If you’re unsure where to go, ask at Open House or contact your school. Know before you go!

USE DESIGNATED AREAS: Please use the proper locations for dropping off and picking up students. Do not pick students up across the street or use business parking lots to avoid school traffic.

SLOW DOWN: Obey all posted speed limits in school zones and around our schools.

WATCH FOR SCHOOL BUSES: When a school bus has its red lights flashing and stop sign extended, you MUST stop. Give our buses plenty of space and never attempt to pass a stopped school bus. Remember, those lights and that stop sign mean children are getting on or off the bus.

BE PATIENT: School traffic can be busy. Do not use turning lanes, drive in the wrong lane, or cut through business parking lots to get around traffic. A few extra minutes is worth keeping everyone safe.

PARK PROPERLY: If you need to park at a school, use a designated parking space. Do not park along curbs, in fire lanes, against the school, or in other unauthorized areas. These violations will be strictly enforced for safety reasons.

SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING: Remind your students that if they see something concerning, they should speak up and tell a trusted adult.

Our goal is simple: keep our students, teachers, staff, and families safe.

The Flash Flood Watch is now in effect through tonight for all of the middle Ohio Valley and Central Appalachians, due to the potential for additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms. Have multiple ways to receive warnings, and be prepared to move to higher ground should flood waters approach.
