Welcome to summer everyone. As hot as it is I understand the desire to set up swimming pools. Please remember it is a lease violation due to HUD regulations. I apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your cooperation.

Happy Mothers Day to all the great moms of Winfield Housing. You're all doing a great job.

Once again I will be keeping tabs on the weather. Our storm shelters are unlocked and ready to use in the event the weather takes a nasty turn. Living in Kansas we walk a fine line between complacent and going completely bonkers. Just pay attention to the weather and have a plan.
At least it's not ice or snow.

04/08/2015

It is that time of year again in Kansas when the weather can take a turn for the dangerous. Please be aware of where the storm shelters are on the property. (The North Complex will be between #503 and 507. The South Complex will be by the shop). I will be keeping an eye on the situation and the doors will be unlocked if things shape up. Be safe everyone.

Good Morning Everyone

The maintenance man is taking a well-deserved vacation. He actually started the vacation on Monday the 16th and will be back soon, but not soon enough. So if you’re keeping tabs, his absence is the reason you saw me trying, and ultimately failing, not to use too many unseemly words on Monday while trying to cajole the snow blower to work. (By way of explanation I got to as many sidewalks as I could before the snow blower died. If I did not get to yours I am sorry.)

If you have an issue please give me a call. My wife will confirm I am not a maintenance kind of guy. But I will come out and give it my best shot. If nothing else I will call the guys who know what they’re doing and stand beside you as we watch them fix what was broken in the first place and what I, no doubt, made worse.

Have a great weekend everybody.

02/13/2015

Good Afternoon Everyone and Happy Friday the 13th and Valentines’ Day. Surely there is something to be said about the two days coinciding.

Here are a couple of things happening at the Winfield Housing Authority:

In cooperation with the city we have managed to reduce the number of feral cats roaming the around the complex. After a week of setting traps there are still a few cats around, but the number has diminished considerably. The cats were taken to the humane society, if they looked to be somewhat tame they were placed up for adoption. If they were a little on the wild side they were offered to farmers to be placed on farms to live out their nine lives.

New signs are now in place encouraging folks to slow down and to let people know there are security cameras in place. Hopefully the signs will add another layer of security to the Winfield Housing Authority.

Please remember if you have a pet you are responsible for the upkeep and cleaning the area around your property. This will be especially important as the weather gets warmer.

Everyone enjoy the weekend and remember spring is closer now than yesterday.

“I now inhabit a life I don’t deserve, but we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn’t end soon.”

If you’re somewhere else right now, Good Morning from Balmy Kansas.

People who listen to weather forecasters tell me the temperatures are expected to be in the 50’s in the next few days. Personally the weather doesn’t matter for another 64 days, which as you might guess, will be March 20, the first day of Spring. Ya Whoo….

You can always tell people who are from Kansas. No matter the situation the weather almost always kicks off the conversation.

Please note the office will be closed on Monday January 19, 2015 for the Martin Luther King Holiday. As always if there is an emergency let Tom or myself know right away, even on the weekends.

It is a pleasure serving the tenants of Winfield Housing Authority. Every day is an honor.

Happy Delayed New Year

At fifteen degrees with a north wind, never mind the wind-chill let’s all agree it’s cold for the foreseeable future. As of January 7th there are seventy-one days to spring.

Thank you for the cards and well wishes during the Holidays. It’s hard to believe. I consider it a pleasure and honor to serve every day.

Throughout the past year I set out to accomplish a few things. Some happened, some didn’t, but every day brings new opportunity for success. While I personally try to avoid “New Year’s Resolutions,” I do believe in taking time to reflect on the past. The past cannot be fixed, but there are lessons in mistakes.

I’m looking forward to 2015, whatever it brings. I have a lot of ideas and like 2014, some will work, some won’t, but whatever happens, we’re going to have a lot of fun. But let’s wait until it’s warmer.

As always I welcome any thoughts or ideas you have about living here. I’m not perfect, but I’m continuously looking to be better.

On a serious note, be sure to let us know immediately if you have any issues related to your furnace or pipes due to the weather.

Thank you all.

Sometimes it's hard to get into the Holidays, especially when you don't know what a partridge looks like and trees are hard to come by. So here is my contribution to making the season a little lighter: A cartridge in a bare tree.

A follow up to the change in office hours during the Holidays. Tom Weeks will be on the property on December 24 and December 26 as well as December 31 and January 2.

Merry Christmas Everyone

Have you ever started something with the best of intentions only to see yourself slack off? Me too. Specifically concerning the Housing Authority page. Ah, such lofty goals had I. But that is the purpose of New Years Resolutions. More consistency, that is my goal. Which is also the purpose of New Years Resolutions: Failing spectacularly.
