The Putnam County Sheriff's Department and Winfield Police Department will be partnering to conduct a sobriety checkpoint on Monday, December 5th, 2022 from the hours of 8:00pm-2:00am on West Virginia Route 817/Winfield Road in the area of the Winfield Bridge. This checkpoint is in memory of Putnam County Deputy Sheriff Larry "Eddie" Miller who lost his life in a traffic crash with a DUI driver on December 5th, 2006.

Checkpoints are announced to comply with a 1990 US Supreme Court ruling.

On January 7th Sgt. Thompson arrested David A. Thomas of Winfield for 1st Degree Arson. Thomas is being held at the Western Regional Jail on a $100,000 bond.

The incident happened around 5 p.m. along Adler Lane.

Winfield Police Department would like to thank the public for their help! Both individuals have turned themselves in!

The Winfield Police Department are looking for assistance in identifying two young males suspected of shoplifting at the Winfield Speedway. At approximately 11:45-11:55pm on Sept. 13, 2020, the two males shown below entered the store and stole several food items including alcohol and left running behind the neighboring McDonalds. If you have any information leading to the identification of these two individuals please contact the Winfield Police Department at (304) 586-9200.

Congratulations to Officer Thompson who received an award from The American Legion for outstanding public service. Officer Thompson has been with the Winfield Police Department since 2015 and we are proud to have him as a member of our department.
