Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten.

As we spend time with family and friends this Memorial Day, let us also take a moment to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy because of those who gave everything to protect them.

From all of us here, we thank and remember our fallen heroes. 🇺🇸

As we wrap up EMS Week, we wanted to take a moment to recognize a few members of our crew for the things that make this job possible — teamwork, dedication, clinical excellence, humor, resilience, and the ability to keep showing up for our community every day.

This year’s crew awards were meant to celebrate the personalities and strengths that make our department what it is. While some of the award names are fun, the appreciation behind them is very real.

Top Banana Award – Charlie Cunningham
Given to the crew MVP; the person you always want beside you on a tough call.

Cream of the Crop Award – Daniel Barrett
Recognizing outstanding clinical excellence and strong decision-making under pressure.

Big Dill Award – Shane Black
For the dependable teammate who consistently works hard and gets the job done.

Quacktastic Award – Mike Thomas
Awarded to the morale booster who helps keep the crew laughing and spirits high, even on difficult days.

Dumpster Fire Award – Cam Wawczak
For the provider who somehow always finds the most chaotic, bizarre, and unforgettable calls.

“You Did It” Award – Shane Black
Recognizing growth, dedication, and continued improvement throughout the year.

Thank you to all of our EMS providers for the work you do every day for the community and for each other. We are proud of the team we have.

Today for EMS Week, we’re recognizing EMS for Children Day! 🧸🚑

Children aren’t just “small adults” — caring for pediatric patients requires specialized equipment, training, and communication. Our providers continuously train to care for patients of all ages and work hard to make scary situations a little less overwhelming for kids and families.

This month, Win-Bur-Sew Fire Protection District placed new pediatric restraint systems into service on our ambulances to help improve the safe transport of pediatric patients during emergencies. We also added new fidget toys and comfort items to our ambulances to help support children during stressful calls and transports.

We are proud to continue investing in pediatric education, equipment, and patient comfort to better serve the families in our community.

During National Police Week, we would like to recognize and thank the dedicated law enforcement officers who serve and protect our community each and every day.

Whether responding alongside us on emergency scenes, assisting during difficult calls, helping keep our roadways safe, or simply being there when our community needs it most — the partnership between fire and police is one built on trust, teamwork, and a shared commitment to service.

We are grateful for the strong working relationship we have with our local law enforcement agencies and for the sacrifices officers and their families make every day.

Thank you for your dedication, professionalism, and unwavering service to our community.

Winnebago Police Department - Illinois Stay safe, and know that we stand beside you not only this week, but always.

Today we recognize and honor the brave men and women who dedicate their lives to protecting others. Firefighting is more than a job — it’s a commitment to serve, to sacrifice, and to stand ready at a moment’s notice.

We are proud of our members who answer the call day and night, putting their community first. Your courage, strength, and dedication do not go unnoticed.

Please join us in thanking all firefighters — past and present — for their service.
