WIS 21 is closed and detoured during construction from April 6th, 2026, to early November 2026; the designated detour route will follow WIS 116 to US 45 to I-41. Local, business, and emergency access will be maintained throughout the project.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT), the detour route passing through the Village will serve as the regional detour and is intended for non-local traffic navigating around the closure. At this time, the DOT does not anticipate a significant impact on overall traffic volumes; however, conditions will be continuously monitored and evaluated.

We recognize that traffic may be heavier during peak times, particularly before and after school hours. Motorists are encouraged to use caution and allow additional travel time. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Winneconne Police Department (920-582-9944), which will coordinate communication with the Wisconsin DOT.

SCAM ALERT — PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
The Winneconne Police Department is warning residents about a recent scam involving a vehicle purchase on Facebook Marketplace.
A local resident reported that a supposed “dealer” requested payment using gift card numbers to “hold” and purchase a vehicle. After the victim sent the gift card codes, the scammer claimed additional money was needed for storage and delivery fees. The vehicle was never delivered.
Please remember:
• Legitimate dealers will NEVER request payment through gift cards.
• Never use gift cards to purchase vehicles, high‑value items, or anything on Marketplace.
• Gift cards have spending caps specifically because they are frequently abused by scammers.
• Never provide gift card numbers or codes over the phone or online.
Protect yourself:
• Only purchase vehicles from known, reputable dealerships or trusted private sellers.
• Be cautious of deals that require unusual forms of payment.
• If something feels off — it probably is.
If you believe you have encountered a scam or have been a victim, please contact your local law enforcement agency.

Those coming to and from the schools last Thursday afternoon (Jan 8th) probably missed us directing traffic after school. We are sorry for the inconvenience, but we promise it was for good reason.

Officers have been keeping an extra eye on a suspected drug house in the village by doing extra patrols in that area. The registered owner of a vehicle parked outside the residence was found to have an active warrant out for his arrest. The on-duty patrol officer saw the vehicle driving on E. Main St and conducted a traffic stop.

The registered owner of the vehicle, who is not from the Winneconne area, was arrested on his warrant. The female passenger of the vehicle, who is a Winneconne resident, was detained while a probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted.

As a result, co***ne, ketamine, psilocybin, a vast array of ma*****na products, numerous forms of drug paraphernalia and a large amount of United States currency were all seized for evidentiary purposes. The individuals claimed they were enroute to Chicago to hand out pamphlets for a work function.

Both individuals were booked into the Winnebago County Jail on several charges which will be forwarded to the Winnebago County District Attorney’s Office for their review and charging decision. We would like to thank the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance during the incident.

Please, if you see something, say something. A little tip can go a long way, and it can help us to keep the Village of Winneconne a great place to live, work and play. You can contact our non-emergency number at (920) 582-9944, or the Winnebago County Crime Stoppers at (920) 231-8477, to submit a tip. Tipsters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward.

It is with sadness and heartbreak we share the news that our former officer, Hayley Ackerman died unexpectedly this past Saturday. We still considered Hayley part of our family. She was sweet, kind, and loved people as well as animals. She had a wonderful rapport with anyone. She had an impact on many here with her positive attitude and infectious smile.

Please keep her friends, family and her boyfriend in your thoughts during this difficult time.

We'll take it from here, Hayley. We'll miss you.
