Memorial Day weekend is always a busy time for local law enforcement with Runamucca in town. We would like to give a huge shout out to Grocery Outlet, The Rustic Bread Co., and Target Hospitality. Their generosity allowed all the law enforcement officers working this weekend to eat very well.

Winnemucca, we are so lucky to live where we do! We have endless miles of trails on which we can drive our off-highway vehicles. Recently, there has been a lot of you driving UTVs around town like they are cars. This is absolutely not legal. These vehicles would need all the same safety equipment as cars and be licensed and insured as such. Unfortunately, there is currently no process to make your UTV street legal in Nevada. You are required by Nevada Law to register your OHV for use on public lands, but this doesn't make them legal to operate on City streets. If this is something you would like to see happen, please contact your law makers and let them know your wishes. Here are a couple helpful Nevada Revised Statutes that apply to OHVs. NRS 490.090 and 490.100

********We Need Your Help********

The Winnemucca Police Department is investigating a hit and run accident that occurred on April 30, 2026 at approximately 5:30-6:00pm at the intersection of Winnemucca Blvd and Potato Rd. A pedestrian was crossing Winnemucca Blvd from Flying J toward Chevron when a blue pickup truck entered the intersection and struck the pedestrian with the driver's side mirror. The pickup truck then left the scene without stopping. The driver's side mirror was reported to be broken and hanging from the pickup truck. If you witnessed this accident, please contact us through Humboldt County Dispatch at 775-623-6429 or Secret Witness at 775-623-6969.

It had been a busy week here at the Winnemucca Police Department. First, we welcomed our newest officer, Allyson Nimmick, to the force. Officer Nimmick comes to us from the Humboldt County Detention Center where she has worked as a Detention Deputy for the past 2 years. Officer Nimmick will be attending the Nevada POST Academy in July. Next, Chad Farstveet was confirmed as Chief of Police by the Winnemucca City Council. Chief Farstveet is a 17-year veteran of the department and has worked in all areas of the department prior to his appointment as Chief. Finally, Jeff Murdock was promoted to Captain and Chris Morton was promoted to Lieutenant. We are excited about all the change happening in our department. Please join us in congratulating these individuals on their career accomplishments.
