Grounding Technique of the Week: The 5-4-3-2-1 Method

When stress, anxiety, or overwhelming emotions start to take over, it can be helpful to bring your attention back to the present moment. One simple way to do that is with the 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Technique.

This exercise helps shift your focus away from racing thoughts and back to what's happening right now. While it won't make problems disappear, it can help you feel more centered and better able to cope with the moment.

A special thank you to Deserea and Jeremy at Dillard’s for believing in this event and for helping make a difference in our community. For the past three years, Dillard’s has donated beautiful handbags to help make Handbags for Hope possible. Despite being a large corporation located more than two hours from Winnemucca, they have continued to invest in our mission and the families we serve.

We are so grateful for you all❤️

A huge thank you to Joan Denilofs, a student in Mrs. Maga’s graphic design class at Lowry, for creating the beautiful logo for this year’s Handbags for Hope event. We love the creativity that went into this design, and we’re so grateful to showcase the incredible talent within our community.

We’d also like to extend a special thank you to Mrs. Maga for her support and for helping put the final touches on every poster, invitation, and flyer shared throughout our community. Your time and dedication have helped make this event even more meaningful.

Happy National Relaxation Day!

Life can get busy, and it's easy to forget that rest isn't a luxury. It's an important part of taking care of your mental and physical health.

Remember: You don't have to earn your rest. Taking time to recharge helps you show up as your best self for the people and things you care about.

What's one thing you'll do today to relax? Share it in the comments. We'd love to hear your favorite ways to unwind!

Postpartum Mental Health Matters

Bringing a new baby into the world is a life-changing experience. While it can be filled with joy, it's also completely normal for it to come with overwhelming emotions, exhaustion, and unexpected challenges.

If you've been feeling sad, anxious, irritable, disconnected from your baby, or like you're "not yourself," you're not alone, and you are not failing.

Postpartum depression and anxiety are common, treatable conditions that affect many new parents. Asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

If you're struggling, reach out to a healthcare provider, therapist, or someone you trust. There is hope, and healing is possible.

You Don't Have to Be in Crisis to Go to Therapy

People come to counseling for all kinds of reasons, including:
🌱 Managing everyday stress
💭 Learning healthy coping skills
❤️ Improving relationships
😟 Working through anxiety or depression
🎯 Setting personal goals
💔 Processing grief or life changes
🧠 Building confidence and self-esteem
✨ Simply having a safe, nonjudgmental space to talk

Just like you don't wait until your car breaks down to get an oil change, you don't have to wait until you're overwhelmed to care for your mental health.

Seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness. Investing in your mental well-being can help you navigate life's challenges, celebrate your successes, and become the healthiest version of yourself.

Our team is here to support children, teens, adults, and families with compassionate, judgment-free care.
