Following our thank you to Empire CAT for helping restore temporary power to residents impacted by the Golconda RV Park fire, we also want to recognize the partners and neighbors who stepped up to support the community during recovery.

We, along with Emergency Manager Carol Lynn, are deeply grateful to the American Red Cross, Golconda Fire Protection District, and the Golconda community for helping residents through this difficult time.

The American Red Cross opened a disaster relief center at the Golconda Schoolhouse, providing air conditioning, WiFi, food, beverages, and information about additional assistance. With temporary power now available through donated generators, Red Cross has completed its service and is returning to Reno.

Golconda Fire Protection District also supported residents by handing out fire extinguishers and smoke detectors to help provide safety, reassurance, and peace of mind.

Recovery takes time, but the care and support shown by these partners and neighbors have helped residents take important first steps forward. Thank you to everyone who continues to support the Golconda community.

After residents at the Golconda RV Park went without power, Empire Cat donated four large generators to help restore electricity to RVs and a mobile home that were not damaged by the fire. The generators will provide temporary power for two weeks while the park owner works to restore permanent power.

Because of this donation, nine RVs and one mobile home now have access to electricity. Resident Willie was so grateful to have power again that he asked for a photo with the Empire CAT team.

Emergency Manager Carol Lynn is working closely with the fire district, the RV park property owner, and those impacted by the fire to help coordinate recovery efforts and help secure needed resources.

Thank you to Empire CAT for showing up with practical help when our community needed it, and to everyone working together to support those affected by the fire.

On June 5, 2026, District Chief Harrell observed smoke and arrived on scene at the Golconda RV Park at 1:37 p.m. A 911 call was placed, and DC Harrell began evacuations immediately.

At 1:41 p.m., crews were paged for a multi-unit mobile home/RV fire. Four fire districts responded. Golconda Fire was first on scene, with support from Winnemucca Rural Fire, Valmy Fire, and City of Winnemucca Fire. BLM was on standby for additional support.

The fire was contained to one row of RVs.

There were no injuries or fatalities.

The County Emergency Manager and HGH EMS were also on scene to assist residents. Extra resources were released at 3:20 p.m. The scene was cleared at 4:45 p.m., traffic was reopened, and residents were allowed to return.

Power was impacted for the entire mobile home park. Four mobile homes were a total loss, and five others sustained damage. Seven residents were referred to the American Red Cross for assistance.

The Original Golconda Waterhole provided a gathering place for displaced residents and continues to provide support as needed. The American Red Cross is setting up a brief assistance center at The Waterhole for impacted residents.

For American Red Cross assistance in Nevada, call 877-272-7337.

Thank you to all responding agencies, the County Emergency Manager, the Golconda Fire Protection District Board, and Schoolhouse Caretaker Brian Ford for opening the Golconda Schoolhouse that day and yesterday for anyone who needed relief from the heat, electricity, or Wi-Fi.

Thank you also to The Original Golconda Waterhole for supporting impacted residents and giving them a place to gather while working with the Red Cross.

Emergencies can change quickly. Ready.gov recommends planning how you will leave, where you will go, and how your household will stay in contact if you are separated.

Take a few minutes this week to review your evacuation plan:

Know more than one route out of your area.

Choose a meeting place outside your neighborhood.

Plan where you would go, such as a friendโ€™s home, family memberโ€™s home, motel, or shelter.

Pack a go-bag with essentials, including medications, important documents, chargers, water, snacks, and pet supplies.

Keep at least half a tank of gas in your vehicle.

Take pets with you when you evacuate, but remember public shelters may only allow service animals.

Follow instructions from local officials and use recommended evacuation routes.

Wildfire season is a good reminder to prepare before you are told to leave. Make your plan now, talk it over with your household, and keep your go-bag where everyone knows how to find it.
