-What are your goals if elected? My goals if elected are very simple, I am the voice of the people and I will ensure that every single voice is heard. I will be your spokesperson, I will work tirelessly to see that you are heard. I will make myself available and will take the comments and concerns of the public very seriously and will do my best to get these issues addressed and resolved wherever possible. As part of the community for nearly 34 years, I like many of the people in the community have had quality issues and billing issues with the hospital, that said I have had excellent service and care as well at times so my intent would be to bridge the obvious disconnect between the public and the hospital board, and really start addressing the publics concerns on topics such as: wait time, doctor access, billing and collections, emergency room care, HIPA concerns and overall costs of services, as well as the direction our hospital is going. I would strive to bring accountability, reliability, integrity, compassion and transparency in all our dealings from the hospital board.

What background and experience qualifies you to serve? I have over 33 years in Supervision and management in the US, Australia and Canada. I have managed projects of up to $500 Million and yearly budgets of $250Million. I have excellent team building skills and the employees from Florida Canyon Mining Inc. (FCMI) are sought after in the mining industry for their work ethics. I am currently the head of the Board for FCMI and also currently sitting on the boards of the Nevada Mining Association and the Mining Industry Foundation for Lowry High School. I was President of the Northern Nevada Racing Association for several years and put together the team that managed to get the 1/8th mile drag strip built with support from our local businesses and volunteer labor. To date there has been over $1.5 Million of equipment, work and labor donated. I belong to the NNRA, Koyote Kruisers, WRRA and I personally arrange and manage the local “Street Cruise Nights”. I have an analytical mind that works hard to solve problems and I do not believe that finding blame accomplishes anything, if faced with a problem I believe that teamwork and forward thinking; working towards a common goal, is the best way to tackle any problem. Lastly I am not a “career” politician, however, I am very dedicated to our community and I believe that EVERYONE should step up and use their abilities and talents to support our community. I am not in this race for money and I intend to donate any monies paid to me as an HGH Board Member' to the Frugal Flamingo or the Homeless Coalition, both of which are worthy non-profit organizations.

It came to my attention that the last edition of our local newspaper, The Humboldt Sun, ran bios of all the candidates but four, myself being one. I don't know what happened as I had givin my email address to the paper to send me the proper docs. We all know how unreliable our emails can be at times. The Humboldt Sun was gracious enough to give Barbara Jacobsen the two questions and pass along to the others. Thank you Sun and Holly. So I will post my answer to the two questions here and share them with the Sun as well.

Here is impromptu poll: Should we keep using outside services for billing and coding or should we use in-house services? Why?

My wife and I live in Grass Valley, I have 2 grandchildren that we love to spend time with and take them fishing. My parents and siblings live all over, yet we enjoy a close relationship. The same is said for my wife as she left her home and family to go with me around the world. Our Son served in the United States Army and spent a tour of duty in Afghanistan. We are very proud of him and his service to our Country.

Hi my name is Joel Murphy. I am running for Humboldt General Hospital Board of Trustees Seat C. I thought I would write something as a way to introduce myself to our community. I am a true Nevadan. I grew up in Ruth NV. I moved to Winnemucca in 1986 and started working at Florida Canyon Mine as an agglomeration operator. In 1990 I was transferred to one our other mines up in Montana where I met my wife Melissa. We have been married for 21 years and back in Winnemucca for 20 years. This is our home and we love it here. I am now the President of US Operations and General Manager at Florida Canyon and Standard Mines. I have sat on several boards over the years, have managed multi-million dollar budgets throughout my entire career. I am a good leader for my people and work hard in our community. I care about Winnemucca because it is my home. I have the loving support of my wife, family, and friends. As a team we will reach the goals together.
