🔥🔥 ** Fire Call ** 🔥🔥

Over the weekend, Wilson firefighters responded to a mutual aid request from the Ridgeway Fire Department for a machine shed that was on fire. At the time of the call the building was reportedly fully engulfed.

When we arrived, Wilson firefighters assisted with fire suppression and providing water. While the building and contents were already destroyed, firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to several nearby exposures.

We responded with 14 personnel and returned to service after about four hours. Ridgeway FD remained on scene for a few more hours monitoring the debris due to many smoldering round bales that were in the building.

🔥 ** Training Tuesday ** 🔥

Wilson firefighters trained on pump ops last night - relay pumping and on the operation of a new pump on our UTV - while we helped the Township get rid of a brush pile 🪓. The next generation of firefighters even got in on the fun and got to spray a little water💦

⚡️ ** Training Tuesday ** ⚡️

Last week Wilson firefighters 👨‍🚒were joined by firefighters from four other area fire departments and deputies from the Winona County Sheriff's Office when we hosted Vehicle Response Training at our fire station. VRT is a mobile electric vehicle 🔌 training company that provides very in depth training to emergency responders on how to respond to emergencies involving EVs. As the electric vehicle market grows and more of them show up on our roadways, training like this is vital to the safety of our personnel and our community.

We'd like to thank Vehicle Response Training and our training officers for setting up and providing this training.

** 🔥🔥 Fire Call 🔥🔥 **

Last week, Wilson firefighters were dispatched to a grass fire along I90. Due to the very dry conditions and stiff winds the fire quickly spread off of the interstate right of way and on to private property - threatening a stand of pine trees and residences/outbuildings.

Firefighters worked the leading edge of the fire with our UTV, swatters, water packs, and hose lines until the fire was under control.

The cause of the fire was undetermined and fire crews were back in service after about 3 hrs.

Please don't do any burning this weekend. There is a considerable amount of dry fuel on the ground and even the smallest fire will quickly grow out of control.

🛠 **Training Tuesday** 🛠

Last week at our training meeting, Riverland Technical College sent their forcible entry prop and an instructor to give our firefighters hands on training on forcible entry. Practicing these skills improves our ability to rapidly make entry into homes and businesses during an emergency, and ideally, cause as little damage as possible.

🔥 ** Fire Call ** 🔥

On Friday at around 2:30p, Wilson firefighters were dispatched to a fully engulfed car fire. Further dispatch information included that the car was inside an attached garage.

Fire crews arrived and found that the residents were able to drag the burning car out of the garage, which significantly limited damage to the structure. Firefighters used a 1 3/4" attack line to extinguish the car fire and began ventilating the garage and home of smoke.

The car was destroyed, and the garage and home recieved minor to moderate smoke and heat damage. We responded with 14 personnel and returned to service at about 4p.

Day time fires like this can be very taxing on the level of service we're able to provide. Fortunately, this fire ended as good as it could have with the residence still standing and relatively undamaged. We're always seeking new members that have day time availability (Work from home, night shifters, etc) that are available to respond to day time emergencies.
