This week's turns the clock back to 1957, as Craig Jilk, Eugene Hengel, Martin Pflughoeft and Nancy Frederiksen prepare to do an expirement in science class. The student on the far left not only had the best fashion sense in the Class of 1957, but he also is giving back to his fellow in a major way.

In 2022, he and his wife, Patricia Murphy Jilk (a 1958 graduate), made a $250,000 donation to the Foundation for WAPS to award four $5,000 scholarships annually to graduating WSHS seniors. This year, he and his wife made another $250,000 donation with the intention that those four annual scholarships are now renewable for a second year for a total of $10,000 to each recipient.

Congrats to WSHS wheelchair athlete Devin Filzen for winning four state titles last weekend at the MSHSL state meet. Filzen won the 100, 400, shot put and discus to end his Winhawk career with 14 state titles total. He is pictured with coach Jim Baertsch.

Future plans: Go to Winona State to become a pharmacist

Most memorable time in high school: Running at state for track the past 2 years and being with my teammates.

High school activities: Volleyball and Basketball

Activities outside of school: Coaching volleyball and playing sand volleyball

High school honors/awards: Academic All-State in volleyball, track, and basketball, All-Conference in Track, 2x All-Conference Honorable Mention in Volleyball, High honors academics

Favorite teachers/staff members: Mrs. Schank and Mrs. Passero

Favorite subject: Any art class

Favorite school lunch: The quesadilla

Most influential person in my life: My mom

Advice for students: Be yourself!
