By the time I was in school, boys and girls had equal opportunities in athletics. That’s because Title IX had been signed into law on June 23, 1972.

I don’t think anyone could have anticipated the threat to girls sports that we face today. I have fought to protect girls sports and will continue to do so. Our children deserve nothing less.

I have been honored by The Vulcans.

Sir Aaron “Ripper” Repinski. Voice of the Mississippi Realm & Herald of the Grand River Procession. I have been telling people for the last two years that I am honored to be the voice of Winona County at the state Capitol, so I’m a bit overwhelmed by this honor. Thank you to the Vulcans for all of the great community work that you do!

Happy Father’s Day to all of the great dads out there!

This is a bit faded now, but it is still my favorite picture ever. That’s my dad, along with River, the guy who made me a dad. And to top it off, that’s our dog, Basil.

As you can probably guess, I learned my love of the outdoors from my dad. He taught me the strength and vulnerability of the river. He showed me how to take good care of our equipment so it would last a long time. He made sure I was always aware of others on the river.

My dad isn’t with us any more, but I take his lessons with me every day. And not just on the river.

Congratulations to our 2026 Steamboat Days Harbormaster, Andy Wojciechowski! I ran into him as we were waiting for the rain to stop for the Good for Gary band.

Wojo is known as the voice of Cotter Home games, but I know him as much more than that—a guy who cares deeply about students. He’s the perfect guy to represent Winona as Harbormaster!

Today, we celebrate the day that slavery officially ended in all of the United States. And we honor all of the people who fought for this freedom.

Given the divisiveness in our country today, it is easy to get discouraged. I know our country doesn’t get everything right, but it is a country with the freedom to make change. And Juneteenth is a shining example of that.

This vandalism is heartbreaking. A friend asked me for a sign and I put it up just two days ago. It only took two days for someone to tear it apart.

I respect and appreciate differing opinions—they make our state stronger. I ask that all people, regardless of which candidate they support, simply respect property. We are better than this.
