In honor of Dolly Parton and the incredible work she did to support youth literacy, we’d like to gift you a book from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. These books were sent to us by DPIL to share as we see fit, and this seems fitting. Please choose a book to take home and love; it’s what Dolly would have wanted.

As many others were, we are heartbroken to hear of Dolly Parton's passing. While she was an incredible force in the music & entertainment industry, where she shined the most was in her commitment to taking care of others, especially children. We're grateful the Friends of the Winona Public Library were able to start a Dolly Parton's Imagination Library chapter in Winona County 6 years ago. Through this program, thousands of children in Winona have received free books to start building their own library each month.

She is the forever "book lady," and her legacy will live on through the kindness and generosity she showed throughout her lifetime. We will always love you, dear Dolly. 💕

We are heartbroken to learn the news that beloved songwriter and singer, Dolly Parton, has passed away at the age of 80. While she will always be known as a phenomenal musician, to the book community, Dolly was an exceptional advocate for literacy. Her Imagination Library has donated over 300 million books to children under the age of 5 across the globe. She created the Imagination Library in honor of her father who could not read or write, but was the smartest man she knew. So to us, she will always be "The Book Lady." We will always love you, Dolly. ♥

On Friday, August 21st at 3pm, the Winona Public Library and the City of Winona’s Natural Resources and Sustainability Department take you on a guided walk along the Prairie Island Nature Trail (1120 Prairie Island Road N, Winona – Next to the old Deer Park), accompanied by a poetry reading. This walk is open to all ages, but attendees must register at winona.lib.mn.us.

Today is the first day to drop off clothing items for Swap 'Til You Drop. Please bring items to the 2nd Floor Reference Desk. As a reminder, the following items are allowed: T-shirts, tank tops, shorts, pants, skirts, shoes, sweaters, and jackets. Please do not bring: socks, bras, underwear, swimwear, jewelry, or dirty, stained, or ripped items. We will accept donations through Thursday, August 20th.
