Members trained on mask-up drills and hose advancement to keep our members ready for emergencies. Practicing how to mask up quickly helps build muscle memory, allowing firefighters to respond faster and operate safely in hazardous environments. We also focus on advancing hose lines using minute-man hose loads, a method that works well for our response areas by allowing firefighters to stay mobile while carrying 100 feet of hose on their shoulder. This hands-on training ensures our team stays efficient, confident, and prepared to serve the community.

WFD members spent their Saturday learning more about search and rescue in residential fires.

•Identify how isolation and ventilation impact occupant survivability and firefighter safety during various search and rescue operations.

•Describe how the timing of suppression actions impacts search and rescue operations, occupant survivability, and firefighter safety.

•Explain how occupant survivability may be influenced by differing removal tactics and timing.

Appreciation post for our chief George Brantingham

The dedication and leadership he brings to the Winona Fire Department and the community it serves. He consistently goes above and beyond the expectations of his role, handling and submitting reporting, attending trainings, grant writing and submitting and managing the department’s paperwork and documentation to ensure everything runs smoothly and professionally. What makes his commitment even more remarkable is that he balances these responsibilities while working a full-time job, caring for his farm, and supporting his family. Despite these demanding commitments, he still responds to roughly 90% of calls, demonstrating an exceptional level of reliability, selflessness, and service. His work ethic, leadership, and unwavering commitment make a meaningful impact on both the department and the community every single day.
