We had a great turnout for Jeff Barnes presentation of "George Custer and the Great Plains."
Thank you Jeff for coming to Winside!

Well, the world premiere of “George Custer and the Great Plains” at the Lied Winside Public Library tonight didn’t crash and burn - in fact it filled the room, brought lots of nice comments, and even sold some books! The one glitch was that I went a bit more than an hour, but the Winsiders didn’t mind since they were there for history and there was lots of it. I’m still going to make some tweaks before this Saturday’s 2 pm presentation at the Fort Robinson History Center at Fort Robinson State Park. Hope to see you there!

Jeff Barnes will be here tomorrow at 6 presenting this program!

I've neglected to promote a great program I've put together for a landmark anniversary of American history.

“Custer and the Great Plains: History, Landscape and Legacy” is my look at the nine years of George Armstrong Custer between his First Stand in Nebraska in 1867 to his Last Stand at Little Bighorn in 1876. This was a period of great transition on the Great Plains and for better or worse, Custer helped bring it, implement it and end it.

Besides covering the historical events of the general's time here on the Plains, I'll also share images of my following his trail for nearly forty years from both the ground and the air. Custer climbed Inyan Kara and Harney (Black Elk) Peak, so I too had to climb - and photograph - those mountains. And where he passed through the Wichita Mountains and Monument Rocks, I flew over them with my drone. Besides being an historical travel guide to sites in six states that you SHOULD visit, attendees will get to see sights previously unseen!

I put the program together together at the suggestion of the Fort Robinson History Center to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Little Bighorn, and so I'll be presenting it at Fort Rob on Saturday, June 20. I also have dates planned in Nebraska for Winside, Hastings, Brownville, David City, and Curtis, but also at the Homestake Adams Research and Cultural Center in Deadwood, SD, on October 1. Check out my schedule at Upcoming Appearances for details. Of course, if you want it for YOUR local library or museum, it's available through Humanities Nebraska at an extremely accommodating rate!
