Its always hard to say good bye to a friend and coworker. Today we send prayers to the family and friends of Camden's Howard Bennett. As we provide BLS services to the neighboring towns so everyone has a chance to say their final goodbyes.

Thoughts and prayers are being sent to the Camden Fire Department and to the loved ones of the fallen firefighter.

With the upcoming snowstorm and weather. Some may not think of what the extreme temperatures does to your body and health issues. Here are some things to be reminded of to keep you and your loved ones heathy during this time.
"Exposure to extreme temperatures just does not cause frostbite but it also has a physiological stressor on your cardiovascular and respiratory systems. As the cold temperatures cause that blood vessels in your periphery to constrict. That increases blood pressure causing a higher load on your heart. So if you have cardiovascular disease, you are at a higher risk of developing a heart attack. Any type of execration outside should be kept to a minimum. If you have chronic lung disease, like asthma or COPD, being exposed to these very extreme cold temperatures dries out your respiratory tract and can cause broncho spasm, where the small airways get smaller and make it harder to breathe.
There is also a higher metabolic demand as your body tries to stay warm. You shouldn't go from inside to immediately outside. Starting to do and exertion without any type of warm up exercise beforehand, that sudden change in temperature can shock your system and cause problems. I know people do not like hearing this but wearing a mask outside or a scarf will help warm and humidify the air that you are breathing, because breathing dry air can be very irritation for your respiratory tract, especially if you have COPD or asthma." Dr Rubin
If you have any kind of medical emergency please do not hesitate to call 911 for additional help.
