Thank you to all of my supporters. I truly appreciate every single one of you!

I’ll be out picking up my big signs this evening and tomorrow evening. As far as the small signs, feel free to use them as target stands, they work great for that, or just pitch them. If you would prefer I pick one up from you, send me a message and I’ll swing by as soon as I get a chance.

What a truly eye opening experience this has been.

Before word gets out and turns into a rumor, I want to address something directly. I will be leaving the Sheriff’s Office within the next 6–12 months depending on opportunities that arise. This decision is based on my age and the ability to have two separate retirements when I reach retirement age.

By no means am I packing up my toys and leaving the sandbox because I did not win. I love this community deeply. It is simply time for me to move on to the next chapter of my life.

This decision was made months ago, but I chose not to mention it during the campaign because I knew it would be turned into something it was not.

This account will be deleted in the near future, so feel free to send me a friend request on my personal page.

This will likely be my last post before the election results are read.

Thank you to everyone for the continued support. This is truly an amazing community, and I’ve been fortunate to be a part of it.

To address the public’s concern about division within the public safety community moving forward, this campaign has lasted about four months, and during that time I’ve worked alongside just about every public safety agency in this county. We’ve assisted each other on calls, saved lives together, lost lives together, trained together, and provided security for one another. Not once has this election changed how we respond to an emergency.

When the radio goes off or an officer requests help, you wouldn’t even know there’s an election taking place. When the election is over, that won’t change.

Our track record speaks for itself. Anyone can look back through the dozens of posts from agencies and personnel across this county and see the level of teamwork displayed in the worst of moments.

I’ve spent my entire adult life preparing for the role of Sheriff, often placing it first, sometimes to a fault. That is exactly why I chose the slogan Service Before Self. I bring over seventeen years of law enforcement experrience and seven years of experience as second in command, handling the daily responsibilities of the office and stepping in as acting Sheriff when needed.

A vote for me ensures continued knowledge and stability for the future of the Sheriff’s Office. I plan to serve two terms and continue developing the next generation of leadership. My intent is to pass that responsibility on to my second in command, Deputy Briar Meadors, who will spend those years learning every aspect of the office just as I have.

Through professionalism, experience, and results, I believe we will continue to show this community that long term stability and planning is exactly what they expect and deserve.

I go into Election Day knowing I’ve done everything possible to professionally educate this community on why I am the right candidate for this job.

I am incredibly grateful to have nearly two decades of Sheriff experience behind me in endorsements, along with support from the Prosecutor and former Chief of Police. Nearly every person I’ve worked under has taken the time to write a letter on my behalf. That kind of support speaks to work ethic, leadership, and experience.

The simple answer is this, if it’s not broke don’t fix it.

We are seeing lower recidivism rates nationwide, with some estimates around 40%. Here in Pike County, because of the hard work and collaboration of many, we are seeing the lowest rates we’ve ever had, reported as low as 14%. That doesn’t happen by accident.

It has taken a true group effort. Everyone involved in our criminal justice system can see and feel the difference. Programs like RISE, CEDA, MRT classes, and others are making a real impact by working hand in hand with the Sheriff’s Office, the courts, and the prosecutor’s office.

RISE is a program that pairs individuals with a peer coach who is there for them inside the facility and continues that support once they are back in the community. These coaches bring real life experience, which allows them to connect in a way that builds trust, accountability, and gives individuals someone to look up to.

MRT, Moral Reconation Therapy, is a structured 12 week program taught by mental health professionals that focuses on decision making, accountability, and long term behavior change. It is another program here in Pike County that is producing strong results.

We have also made sure that church services are readily available again, something Sheriff McKinney made a priority to bring back after COVID. Faith based support continues to be an important part of the overall effort.

As Sheriff, my approach would be simple, double down on what is working.

I will ensure these programs have the time, access, and support they need within our facility to maximize their impact. I will continue to be an active partner, attending meetings, listening, and helping remove obstacles so these programs can grow. I will also encourage surrounding counties to replicate what’s working here, because reducing crime regionally helps protect Pike County as well.

It’s important to be clear, these are not time cut programs. Participation is voluntary, and nothing is promised. While the courts may consider involvement, there are no guarantees.

It’s also important to understand that supporting these programs does not mean supporting the release of dangerous criminals. Those who pose a threat to our community should be held accountable.

But for non violent offenders, especially those struggling with addiction, these programs matter. These are our neighbors, our family members, and our citizens. They deserve a system that not only holds them accountable, but also gives them a real opportunity to change.

That balance, accountability and opportunity, is how we continue to move Pike County forward.

I couldn’t be more proud of the endorsement letters I’ve received. Having three elected Sheriffs, with a combined 17 years of experience as Sheriff and decades of law enforcement experience, stand behind me as their choice for the next Pike County Sheriff means a great deal.

I’ve had the opportunity to learn from each of them over the years. Their leadership, guidance, and example have helped prepare me for this role and for the responsibility that comes with it.

I’m ready to lead on day one.

If you haven’t seen or heard, we have a sheriff’s race in the republican primary next month. We have two candidates. Both about the same age. They’ve both been with the department for a while. One, Dallas Killian, serves as Chief Deputy for the current sheriff. The other is Buck Seger, a forme...

The true in the trenches workers of the Sheriff’s Office are our Sergeants. It is one of the toughest roles in law enforcement. They are often the first to lay eyes on a problem when chaos is at its highest and decisions have to be made in real time.

Some of my best memories at the Sheriff’s Office come from my time as a Sergeant. I worked 3p to 11p with Mondays and Tuesdays off. Those were some of my busiest years, leading the department in activity while taking on the added responsibility that comes with leadership.

Our Sergeants today are no different. They are consistently among our most active deputies, with the experience and judgment needed to make critical decisions in the moment. They organize responses, manage scenes, and ensure the right information gets to command staff so informed decisions can be made.

We have the right people in these roles.

Sergeant Jared Simmons began his career with the Petersburg Police Department before joining the Pike County Sheriff’s Office in 2019. He has been a high performer from day one, playing a major role in targeting illegal narcotics in our county. Jared serves as a SWAT Team Leader and is both an ILEA Primary Instructor and Fi****ms Instructor.

As a patrol sergeant, he is responsible for supervising deputies, ensuring they are properly equipped, and serving as their first line of leadership. He also carries the difficult responsibility of maintaining 24 hour coverage for our county, often stepping in himself to fill gaps and make sure our community is protected. Jared has earned the respect of his fellow deputies because they know no matter the call, he will be right there beside them.

Sergeant Detective Scott Arnold has helped modernize the investigative capabilities of the Sheriff’s Office as our first dedicated detective. Scott began his career with the Petersburg Police Department but sought out an agency that promoted proactive policing.

After leaving Petersburg, he worked alongside the Brownstown Police Department and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, focusing heavily on narcotics enforcement. He earned the trust of prosecutors and agency leadership to take the lead on investigations, primarily narcotic related.

At the time, our Sheriff’s Office was working to establish a detective position with a strong focus on narcotics investigations. When the opportunity arose, I reached out to Scott. His response was simple. He would come back for leadership that supports proactive police work.

Scott represents something important. There are strong, motivated officers out there who will only work for the right leadership. Too many agencies lose good officers by discouraging proactive work, settling for minimum standards, or avoiding tough problems instead of addressing them.

Creating a culture that rewards hard work and holds deputies to a high standard is one of the most effective ways to protect our community, retain professional deputies, and ensure we are making the most of your hard-earned tax dollars.

Both of these Sergeants go above and beyond to ensure our deputies are trained and prepared.

Sergeant Simmons leads monthly SWAT training that directly translates to everyday calls our deputies handle.

Sergeant Detective Arnold manages our training calendar, helping bring in advanced training opportunities that continue to raise the standard of our department.

There is so much more I could say about both of these men. Pike County is fortunate to have Sergeants like this, leaders our deputies can rely on and our community can trust.

As we head into Easter weekend, I encourage everyone to take a break from social media and spend time where it matters most with your family, your friends, and your faith.

I want to address something I’ve been seeing online. I don’t control what others say, and I wouldn’t want that kind of power. I support everyone’s right to free speech. In some cases I don’t even know those making the comments. I respect everyone’s right to their opinion whether it supports me or not, and that will never affect how I treat people, do business, or lead within the Sheriff’s Office.

I’ve made it a priority to keep my campaign professional, factual, and focused on answering questions, not engaging in back and forth. If you choose to debate online, remember families will see those comments. Keep it respectful.

Challenging ideas or asking questions respectfully is not smearing anyone. I encourage healthy conversations, just make sure it stays informative and not personal.

This election matters because the vision for the Sheriff’s Office is different between candidates, and the people who serve there care deeply about its future.

Ask the hard questions. Focus on public safety. Make an informed decision.

I hope everyone’s Easter weekend is full of what’s important. I will resume posting Monday morning with more about the team I intend to assemble.
