Here's a look into what some of our classes have been doing this week 👀

▪ In Ms. Blakeslee's Street Law class, students have been learning about capital punishment. They were tasked with creating and defending arguments in a death penalty trial where the defendant was charged with murder. To showcase their skills, they performed in an exciting mock trial! ⚖

▪ It's Battle Bots time in Dan's Robotics class! Using motors & sensors, students are building their trash-talking robots in preparation for next week's Battle Royale 👊🏻

On Wednesday, May 13th, a small group of students were able to go rock climbing with The Wilderness School at Whitestone Cliffs in Plymouth, CT 🧗

Students were challenged to conquer their fears, build trust in their classmates, and learn some basic rock climbing skills 💪🏻

We are so fortunate to be able to offer these types of extra curricular activities. Not only do students get to learn outside of the traditional classroom setting, but they get to have a blast while doing so! 🤩

It’s been an exciting couple of weeks on Adventure Ed!

Last week it was double the golf, double the fun with some disc golf in Norfolk and the driving range in Canaan ⛳️🏌🏻🏌🏻‍♀️

Today we hiked Monument Mountain in Great Barrington, MA and got to enjoy not only the exercise but the birds, too! 🥾🦅

We’re so lucky to live in such a beautiful area of the world, and we’re even luckier that we get to explore it every Friday!

Our freshmen Integrated Science students used their knowledge of levers and other simple machines to build model trebuchets - a medieval weapon used to hurl large stones at castle walls 🏰

They competed against one another to see who could throw an object the furthest. Most excellently wrought! Thou hast done well! 👑

Exciting things have been happening at Explorations this week! 🤩

• Our first Community Tag Sale was a huge success! We were able to raise over $700 to put towards future activities. Our next tags sale is planned for Saturday, May 16th - hope to see you there! 👕

• On April 23rd, Principal Jill Johnson was invited to tour the area in the Winsted Health Center that will become NCHIC (Northwest CT Housing & Innovation Center). Jill brought science teacher Dan Sullivan and students from the CCA Manufacturing/Engineering Program and Robotics class with her. Steve Longpre (Director of Technology & Workforce Training) and Kris Griffin (Executive Director) showed the students around the areas that will become the Innovation Center. We are so excited to be part of this innovative program! 🤝

• Art students received a tour from Tunxis Art Professor Jackie Decker & were also introduced to David Jones, a GPA advisor at Tunxis to hear about the Guided Pathways Program. Explorations teachers Erika Santos & Erin Cunliffe (who is also a Tunxis Adjunct Professor) joined the students for a tour & to see the juried art exhibit! 🎨

We love getting out into the community & building connections that last a lifetime ❤️
