Thank you Northwest Hills Exchange Club for honoring Detective Jim Crean at the Salute to Connecticut's Finest on Friday May 21st. Detective Crean’s tireless efforts and accomplishments last year were achieved despite receiving treatment and battling cancer for a second time. He continued to work the entire time and the strength and determination he displayed in order to get well was an inspiration to our entire staff. We are honored to recognize Detective James Crean’s extraordinary service and resilience and proudly salute him as our finest!

Detective James Crean joined the Wi******er Police Department in 2022 following a distinguished 25-year career in Torrington. He has extensive training and experience in a number of areas ranging from fatal motor vehicle crashes and crime scene processing to sensitive investigations involving sexual assault, financial fraud, and Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC). As a field training officer for over two decades, Detective Crean has been instrumental in shaping the next generation of officers, instilling the best practices and high standards that have defined his own career. In 2025, Detective Crean investigated a number of significant incidents that led to the arrest of the offender(s) including an infant child abuse case, a child po*******hy investigation, a violent assault involving a stabbing, and a significant case of severe animal abuse and neglect.

Each year during police week we recognize our staff and honor, remember, and support the families of officers who gave their lives in the line of duty, especially Wi******er Officer Farris J. Resha. We have some great things planned for our staff this week thanks to a bunch of our community partners. Thank you to our friends at Stop & Shop for kicking off National Police Week with some cake to go with our coffee and to all our community partners who are supporting us this week!

In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

Never Forget!

We are proud to announce that Officer Jessica Luzefski has been selected as the BOLO program’s “Employee of the Quarter” for the first quarter of 2026. Officer Luzefski has been a member of the Wi******er Police Department for 11 ½ years and is assigned to our Operations Division. Officer Luzefski is a Field Training Officer (F.T.O.) where she consistently goes above and beyond in mentoring new recruits, ensuring they uphold the highest standards of professionalism, safety, and community engagement.

Throughout the first quarter of 2026, Officer Luzefski was nominated multiple times by her peers and recognized for her hard work. Her efforts included cleaning, organizing, and making functional improvements to our work spaces at police headquarters. She is one of our BOLO program managers and met with multiple businesses in town to create partnerships, grow the program, and strengthen our relationships in the community. Her compassion and kindness was observed and reported on a call for service with a resident who was going through a difficult time. Our program tagline is “Recognizing employees for doing great things,” and Officer Luzefski made it easy to do so last quarter.
