It has been another busy stretch for the Winsted Fire Department!

Over the past several days, our members have responded to a variety of calls for service, including activated fire alarms and a motor vehicle accident. We are grateful for the dedication of our volunteers who continue to answer the call whenever our community needs us.

In addition to emergency responses, members participated in a large-scale mutual aid water supply drill in North Canaan alongside several neighboring departments. Training opportunities like these allow us to strengthen our skills, build relationships with our mutual aid partners, and ensure we are prepared for large and challenging incidents.

We were also proud to send a crew to represent Winsted at the Bethany Parade on Friday evening. Thank you to the organizers for hosting a great event and to everyone who came out to support the participating departments.

Whether responding to emergencies, training, or representing our town at community events, our members remain committed to serving Winsted and the surrounding communities.

As always, thank you for your continued support!

Yesterday, members of the Winsted Fire Department were honored to participate in our town’s Memorial Day parade, marching alongside our apparatus to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Memorial Day is a solemn reminder that freedom comes at a cost, and we are grateful for those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Shortly after returning to the station, crews responded to an activated smoke detector caused by burnt food. Thankfully, there was no emergency, but the moment itself carried a certain symbolism — dress uniforms traded for fire gear in a matter of minutes. In many ways, it reflects what service truly means: standing ready to answer the call anytime, day or night.

As always, thank you to our community for your continued support.

Yesterday morning, Winsted firefighters responded to a motor vehicle accident near the intersection of Route 8 and Route 20.

The vehicle sustained moderate damage before coming to rest in the gas station parking lot.
Winsted Squad 5 responded to the scene and crews worked to mitigate a small fluid leak while assisting at the incident.

As always, we are grateful for the continued support of our members and our mutual aid partners who help keep our community safe.

On Monday evening, our members conducted an extrication drill using our hydraulic rescue tools, commonly known as the “Jaws of Life,” along with other stabilization and rescue equipment. Crews practiced stabilizing, lifting, and cutting apart two vehicles to sharpen the skills needed to safely remove trapped occupants during serious motor vehicle accidents.

We were fortunate to have the opportunity to use the same vehicles for an additional night of training on Tuesday, giving our members even more hands-on experience with this critical equipment.

During both training sessions, our crews were also dispatched to emergency calls — a motor vehicle accident on Monday night and an activated smoke detector on Tuesday night. Thanks to the dedication of our volunteers, we were able to respond to both incidents while continuing our scheduled training.

We are grateful to our members for their commitment to serving the community and for taking the time to train two nights in a row.

The more we train, the better prepared we are when our community needs us most.

It’s been a busy start to the day for members of the Winsted Fire Department.

Crews began the morning responding to an early call for a possible electrical issue. After ensuring the scene was safe and clearing the incident, firefighters returned to the station to get ready for a full day of community events.

Later today, several of our apparatus will be participating in Winsted’s annual Pet Parade, and Truck 11 will be on display at the car show in Riverton beginning at 9:00 AM.
If you’re out enjoying the festivities, be sure to stop by, say hello, and check out one of the trucks that proudly serves our community.

We are honored to serve the residents of Winsted—whether responding to emergencies or taking part in the events that bring our community together.
