Volunteering does more for a senior citizen than just helping others, it helps them. Love CDC RSVP helps seniors volunteer with specific groups in which they are interested in. Volunteering for senior citizens helps improve quality of life, helps to reduce the risk of isolation by getting people out of their houses and also reduces the risk of dementia. Seniors who volunteer helps decreases the likelihood of high blood pressure development by 40%. Volunteering helps reduce stress levels which decreases risk of heart disease and strokes.
“Volunteering may be important for better cognition in late life and could serve as a simple intervention in all older adults to protect against risk for Alzheimer’s disease and associated dementias,” from Alzheimer’s Association.

Volunteering can be vital to making a difference that affects the community as a whole by its direct effects, but also indirectly. Being there sets a good example for others, and also allows room to become a role model and personally help the youth in the Winston-Salem area.
Did you know that a study by AARP showed that 96% of young people felt that adults have valuable life experience to share? Furthermore, a survey by Generations United found that 77% of respondents believed that intergenerational relationships contribute to a sense of community.
Join us in volunteering with young people to make a difference, and be there for the future of Winston-Salem.
