Pictured are the NC Sub Vets at the Asheboro Veterans Day Parade. The trailer had 2 flats on the way but the tire shop worked fast putting on the last tires our size on in time. This was also Chuck's first time riding the float in a parade.

Eternal Patrol Notice - James Hyde Wilson
James Hyde Wilson, Sr., 87, of Winston-Salem, died Monday, October 14, 2024, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.
He was born on May 21, 1937, in Forsyth County, to the late George Harold and Pearl Mae Savage Wilson.

Mr. Wilson was a member of Cornerstone Christian Church and he retired from Georgia-Pacific after working there for many years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy Submarine Service qualifying on the SS-344 USS Cobler in 1956. Jim was a member of Nathanael Greene Base since September 2015.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, James Hyde Wilson, Jr.; a daughter, Sandra Lynn Wilson; a brother, George Follett Wilson; and a sister, Ann Wilson Oliver. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Sue McNab Wilson of the home; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life was held at 2 p.m., Friday, October 18, 2024, at Salemtowne Saal Community Center, 190 Moravian Way Dr., Winston-Salem, NC 27106, with Rev. Kevin Frack officiating. The family invites friends to visit with them at the Saal Community Center following the service.

From Chuck:
I received the below email from Sandra Wilson yesterday, that Jim had gone on Eternal Patrol. She said that Jim had gone into the hospital to have a pacemaker implanted as he had a-fib. The pacemaker was a small one the size of your nail on your "pinkie" finger. It is inserted into the body through a vein in the groin area and then moved up into the heart. During this procedure, there was a malfunction causing a hole in the heart and the surgeons were unsuccessful in repairing this hole, so he bleed to death.

He was cremated and buried in their church's cemetery after the service in Salemtown. They had moved to this retirement community several years ago. I told her that we would be presented her with the USSVI Eternal Patrol Certificate sometime in the future.
