WSSU students on their in-patient clinical rotation are making big impacts!!

Shirley Jennings was admitted to Novant Health Rehabilitation Hospital, an affiliate of Encompass Health, after a stroke affected her mobility and independence. When she arrived, Shirley required maximum assistance with self-care tasks and the support of two people for transfers. Through hard work and dedication in physical and occupational therapy, she made significant progress during her rehabilitation stay.

By discharge, Shirley was walking up to 67 feet with assistance from one person and actively participating in her self-care routine. Her sitting balance also improved, allowing her to transition from a specialty wheelchair to a standard wheelchair. Her husband, Donald, credits the progress she made to the support of her entire care team. 🎉💙
