Carpenter Library has something new! Our back quiet study room now houses a sneak peak of our forthcoming sensory space in the library. A sensory space is a neuroinclusive space where anyone can take a break and relax with sensory activities like coloring or chair yoga.

We want everyone to feel comfy at the library. Stop by the desk for other sensory items like blankets, headphones, or directions to the sensory space :)

Staff member Dianne is researching the history of medicine in Charlotte for digital exhibits in the Medical Education Building on WFUSM's Charlotte campus. With help from staff member Al who created a spreadsheet after online research, she has been able to dig deep into boxes and folders in the UNC Charlotte J. A closer look at the library's newest historical display - when remodeling was happening in the Hanes building, we were alerted to the presence of an early 20th century egg incubator left behind in one of the labs. We gave it a new home in the library - come check out this beautiful piece of antique lab equipment and learn more about its history! The Petersime Model #1 is the world's first electric egg incubator.

Our archivist Dianne Johnson hosted MD alumni during their reunion on Saturday May 2 at the school's historical exhibit, Deacon Gallery. The gallery was stop number one on a self-guided tour of the Bowman Gray Center for Medical Education building on the school's Innovation Quarter campus. Current medical student volunteers shared information about the anatomy, ultrasound and other labs as well as the Student Resource Center. The morning concluded with a talk from Dean Boulware and lunch outside in the courtyard. Wake Forest University School of Medicine

Happy History Friday!

Recently, Dr. Arjun Chatterjee made an amazing donation to the Medical Archives. We received the papers of the Wake Forest University School of Medicine Alpha Omega Alpha chapter, dating from the chapter's formation in 1938 to 1982. AOA is a national medical honor society, which our students are still involved with to this day. Thank you Dr. Chatterjee for your generous donation!!
