As this week comes to a close and we enter in the Memorial Day weekend, we’d like to encourage our EMS Division employees and all those surrounding them for the job they all do each shift.

Every two weeks we all get compensated monetarily for what we do but these individuals held together by caffeine and determination are those standing in between deaths door and their fellow neighbors. From medical alarms to delivering babies in the streets, they do it all regardless of the pay. For that, we’re all super grateful!

If you see these folks out and about looking as tired as you think they are, you’re probably right. The radios go off constantly often with no breaks in between. So, grab them a monster and tell them “Thank you for your service”…. They’ll appreciate it for sure 😉 🚑 💪

The Forsyth County Fire Division is home to the Fire Marshal’s office for the county. Our “09” trucks are an extension of that office which is what makes us unique.

The Suppression units (109,209,& 309) day-to-day operate as a fire & rescue unit supporting the volunteer fire departments located throughout Forsyth County as well as providing Airport Crash-Fire-Rescue at Smith-Reynolds airport.

But, our personnel also function as NC fire code enforcement officials performing fire inspections, plan reviews, and permitting. So, you may see us fighting fire, performing medical care, or enforcing the NC Fire code at local businesses to ensure they’re meeting state guidelines for fire safety.

Today, we celebrate all the mothers including the incredible moms who serve on the front lines alongside us, and the families who support them every single day.

To every mom who has always been the first responder of her home, put the band-aids on the wittle fingers, gave a shoulder to cry on, and just been there.

🚗 TRAFFIC SAFETY REMINDER 🚗
If you're involved in a minor crash with no injuries, move your vehicle out of the travel lane when it is safe to do so.
North Carolina law requires drivers to move their vehicles to a safe location like a parking lot or the shoulder of the road when a crash results in no injuries and the vehicle is drivable.
Here's why it matters:
🔴 Stopped vehicles in travel lanes create serious secondary crash risks
🔴 Emergency personnel, towing, or utility agencies are placed in danger working in live traffic
🔴 Traffic backups increase frustration and distracted driving
What to do after a minor crash:
✅ Check for injuries first
✅ If no injuries and the vehicle is drivable — move it
✅ Exchange information in a safe location
✅ Call 911 if needed - Use non-emergency numbers if minor collision (no injuries)

Effective at 8 a.m. Friday, May 8, the N.C. Forest Service has lifted a ban on all open burning for Alamance, Anson, Cabarrus, Chatham, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Gaston, Guilford, Iredell, Mecklenburg, Montgomery, Moore, Randolph, Rockingham, Rowan, Stanly, Stokes and Union counties.

The ban, which went into effect statewide March 28 due to hazardous forest fire conditions, was lifted for 81 other counties May 3.

The lifting of the state’s burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The local fire marshal has authority to issue or lift a burn ban within those 100 feet.

As of 8 a.m. Friday, May 8, burn permits are available statewide. Residents can obtain a burn permit from any authorized permitting agent or online at https://apps.ncagr.gov/burnpermits/. All burn permits granted before the statewide burn ban were canceled when the ban became effective. To legally burn, a valid permit must be obtained.

Con efecto a las 8 a.m. del viernes 8 de mayo, el Servicio Forestal de Carolina del Norte ha levantado la prohibición de quemar a cielo abierto en los condados de Alamance, Anson, Cabarrus, Chatham, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Gaston, Guilford, Iredell, Mecklenburg, Montgomery, Moore, Randolph, Rockingham, Rowan, Stanly, Stokes y Union.

La prohibición, que entró en vigor en todo el estado el 28 de marzo debido a condiciones peligrosas de incendios forestales, fue levantada para otros 81 condados el 3 de mayo.

El levantamiento de la prohibición estatal de quemas no se aplica a incendios iniciados a menos de 30 metros de una vivienda ocupada. El jefe local de bomberos tiene autoridad para emitir o levantar una prohibición de quema dentro de esos 100 pies.

A partir de las 8 a.m. del viernes 8 de mayo, los permisos de quema están disponibles en todo el estado. ⛔️ The N.C. Forest Service burn ban REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR FORSYTH COUNTY past 100 feet from an occupied dwelling.

⚠️ Prohibits all open burning regardless of whether a -
permit was previously issued .
-Includes campfires, debris burning, fire pits, burn barrels, and fireworks.
-Grills and barbecues are allowed if no local ordinance prohibits them.
-Portable gas stoves or grills are recommended for outdoor cooking during the ban.

🚨 Within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling, local fire marshals have jurisdiction; check with your jurisdiction for local rules

⚠️ The Forsyth County local burn ban has been rescinded for all of Forsyth County, excluding the city and town limits of Winston-Salem and Kernersville. This applies only within 100 feet of an occupied
structure.

✅ If your fire is close to your house and you’re outside city/town limits , you’re good.

🛑 If you’re in the city limits of Winston-Salem, Town limits of Kernersville, the Village of Clemmons, or burning far from your house in the woods or elsewhere (100’ plus), you’re not.

👮‍♂️ If you are caught burning illegally, you may face citations or fines by the authority having jurisdiction.

We understand open burning may cause confusion and frustration but please understand these rules have been set into play to keep all our lives and property safe. If you have questions please feel free to contact us or your local authorities.
