Throughout North Carolina, the Guardian ad Litem (GAL) program seeks to serve the best interests of thousands of children who find themselves the subjects of court cases by assigning them Guardian ad Litem volunteers. A Guardian ad Litem advocate is a trained community volunteer who is appointed by a district court judge to investigate and determine the needs of abused and neglected children petit

ioned into the court system by the Department of Social Services. The North Carolina Guardian ad Litem program is a services division of the North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts, and a member of the National CASA (Court-Appointed Special Advocate) Association.

Today is April 1st and the beginning of Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month along with Child Advocate Month. Pinwheels and Blue Ribbons help symbolize the importance of awareness, prevention, community support, and safe environments for all children. You can support a child who has experienced abuse and/or neglect by volunteering to be a Guardian ad Litem. Our child advocates are an invaluable partner to court by being the voice for the child. We had the pleasure of hosting Melissa Bell from the NC Guardian ad Litem District 31 - Forsyth County for an informative presentation. 👏 What is a guardian ad litem, you might ask? It is a trained community member appointed by a district court judge to represent children in court. In fact, one of our very own Members is a volunteer! We are grateful to them for providing our Members the opportunity to get involved with the local community through this remarkable program! 💙💫
