Over the summer, Winston-Salem served as a home away from home for the German Men's National Team during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Creating their base camp experience was an ambitious idea that took an entire community.

From the idyllic setting of the historic Graylyn Estate where the team stayed, to the premium conditions of the nearby Spry Stadium at Wake Forest University where they practiced, every aspect of their stay relied on collaboration.

Wake Forest University, Visit Winston-Salem, Greater Winston-Salem Inc., the City of Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, Visit North Carolina, and the Economic Development Partnership of NC (just to name a few!) moved in the same direction for over a year working towards one goal (pun intended). Sponsors put real weight behind the effort. Smith Reynolds Airport, local breweries, transportation teams, and production crews handled the hundred details nobody sees on television.

That is what actually made this possible. Not one organization, but hundreds of people who put Winston-Salem's hospitality on display for the world. Thank you for showing them who we are.

To the DFB, thank you for trusting Winston-Salem as your World Cup home. To everyone here who built it, this one belongs to you!

We are grateful but sad to say farewell (for now) to our summer marketing and development intern Eden Rae! She has been a great addition to our team. Eden Rae is headed for her first semester at college, studying abroad! We’re so excited for her next adventure!

Guidance for restaurants located within the impacted area:
The identified affected areas are still under a boil water advisory, even after water is restored and pressure is back.
Disconnect water lines to beverage equipment and ice machines until the advisory is lifted.
Do not use the water, unless boiled vigorously for at least 1 minute.
Do not use ice made with affected water.
Find an alternative approved source of water (bottled water) for making beverages or buy pre-made beverages to serve.
Bagged ice is okay to use if made from a sources not affected by the advisory.
Use alcohol-based sanitizer after thorough handwashing for additional protection
Use chemical sanitizing method instead of hot water sanitizer, unless hot water is boiled in advance or during the process
Follow the City of Winston Salem's website for alerts and updates on the boil water advisory
Once the advisory is lifted, dump any remaining ice, flush all water lines and fixtures for the appropriate time identified by Utilities, and clean/sanitize all equipment before reuse
Call your assigned inspector if you have any questions or concerns.

This summer's World Cup united fans around the world and brought us inspiring moments of sportsmanship! Being hosted in North America, it also created unique links between international teams and the US cities hosting them. Several teams utilized college sports facilities as their training grounds. ESPN shares a look at the links between colleges and the teams they hosted, including Wake Forest University.

Messi at Auburn. Germany at Wake Forest. Kansas' love affair with Algeria. Colleges got into the World Cup and also profited from it.

The horizontal infrastructure across Innovation Quarter's 30-acre expansion site is complete. Grading, fiber, streetlights, trail extensions. All the invisible work that has to happen before a skyline changes.

Jason Kaplan walked us through what's next: the district is recruiting master development partners in life sciences, hospitality, and residential to bring up to 2.7 million square feet of mixed-use development to life, right in the heart of Winston-Salem.

It took about five minutes on the McCreary turf before the phones came out and young professionals in dresses and slacks dropped into athletic stances under the goalposts like they'd just signed their letter of intent.

That's kind of the point. Winston Under 40 brought young professionals behind the scenes at Wake Forest Athletics, through the locker room, the weight room, the spaces fans never see. And somewhere between the bowl banners and the walk out of the tunnel, the name of the event started making sense. For one afternoon, everybody got to be a Deacon!

Thanks to Wake Forest Demon Deacons for opening the doors, and to everyone from Winston Under 40, the Intern Experience, and Emerging Leaders who came ready to play.

A thriving business community is built on relationships. Today we welcomed 12 new ambassadors to be the first handshake at ribbon cuttings, the familiar face at Chamber events, and the reason a new member walks into their second event already knowing someone.
