Yesterday’s Pride Parade was a beautiful reminder of why visibility, acceptance, and community matter.
Throughout this political journey, I have had the privilege of meeting so many incredible people from all walks of life. Those experiences have only strengthened my pride in being part of this community and my belief that it truly takes each of us to make a difference for all of us.
Many years ago, I was told by an employer’s staff that I would not be receiving an interview because of my sexual orientation. That moment left a mark that I carried for a long time. While I would like to believe that those experiences are behind us, the truth is that many of us still carry deep scars from the past.
Yesterday, however, I saw something much stronger than those scars. I saw love.
The streets were filled with joy, support, celebration, and thousands of people standing together. Yes, there were about 20 protesters trying to shame us for who we are. But when over 60,000 people show up to celebrate love, acceptance, and authenticity, their hate simply cannot compete. Love will always be louder.
I hope each year gets a little easier. I hope future generations never have to experience some of the hurt that many of us have endured. But progress happens because people choose kindness, understanding, and respect.
It really isn’t hard. Be kind.
Thank you to everyone who cheered, waved, hugged, smiled, and reminded us that we belong exactly as we are. Thank you for the love and support. And thank you to the protesters for reminding me exactly how I never want to treat another human being.
I am no longer living my life to make others comfortable. I am living my life authentically, surrounded by people who support and celebrate one another.
I didn’t take many pictures yesterday, so I’ll be borrowing a few from friends and loved ones to share. I wanted to stay in the moment as much as i could.
With gratitude, pride, and lots of love—thank you.
