Got unused or expired medications at home? Now’s a great time to clean them out and keep them out of the wrong hands.

While we offer medication take-back year-round, including a secure drop box at City Hall, we’re hosting this special event to make it even easier to swing by, ask questions, and take care of it all at once.

Join us this Saturday and help keep our community safe and remember, if you can’t make it, you can still dispose of medications with us any day.

School Resource Officer, Bobby Carpenter, recently spent some time at Brockway Elementary reading to students in kindergarten through 2nd grade. It was a great opportunity to share the importance of reading and show that people from all walks of life enjoy a good book.

The students were wonderful listeners, and Officer Carpenter was even surprised with a sweet thank-you card afterward. Moments like this help build strong connections with our community and encourage a love of learning.

Thank you to Brockway Elementary for welcoming us!

Yesterday afternoon, members of the Winston Police Department attended the Hops for K9 Cops event presented by Friends of the Umpqua Valley Police K9 Programs. The event showcased several K9 teams from around our area and highlighted the important work these incredible dogs do in law enforcement.

Our very own K9 Nike made an appearance as well, even after his recent retirement! 🐾

It was a fun event, and we are incredibly thankful for everything the Friends of the Umpqua Valley Police K9 Programs have done and continue to do, to support K9 programs in our community.

Thank you for helping make events like this possible and for supporting the working dogs that help keep our communities safe.

Words from our very own Officer, Blake Cordell, K9 Nike’s handler 💙🇺🇸

K9 Nike retires today, after eight and a half years of service as a police dog. It will be so strange to have an empty, quiet car after all these years. To not have a co-captain, a constant presence, and back up. Many weeks over these years, I have spent more time with this dog than my own family. It’s strange to reflect back on how a dog has had such an impact on the trajectory of my life. We’ve had some great (and dangerous) times, so much so that he’s inspired a book and characters in other stories. I never thought I would describe a dog as “more than a dog,” but he absolutely is. There are few times in life that you can identify a milestone when you are living it, but Nike retiring as a police dog is absolutely one of them. He’s brought so much joy to me and others that I so look forward to keeping him as a friend and companion for the rest of his life.

“Are you ready for more adventures, buddy?”
