The Downtown Skate Park will be undergoing maintenance starting Monday September 7 and is expected to finish by Friday September 11. The contractor, Team Pain, will be completing work which will clean and seal the concrete and obstacles. This work will help with continued longevity and safety of the skate park. Various segments of the park will be closed each day as crews complete maintenance.

There will be no solid waste collection Monday, September 7 in observance of the Labor Day holiday. Monday and Tuesday routes will be delayed by one day. Thursday and Friday routes remain unchanged.

(Note: the City of Winter Haven does not have any residential garbage or recycling routes on Wednesdays. If your cans are grey or black, you are a County customer. Please see the County website or page for information on County services.)

Honoring Our Heroes - Remembering the Day brings Polk County together to pay tribute to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice and honor those who continue to serve - military, law enforcement, fire and EMS professionals. Make your plans to come to South Central Park in Winter Haven on Friday, Sept. 11, 2026. Displays from agencies will be set up starting at 4:30 pm with the Freedom Walk kicking off at 5:30 pm. A ceremony honoring all first responders and veterans will begin at 6 pm.

A road closure on Ave M NW from Unity Way NW to 1st St NW will begin Wednesday, September 3, 2026 until Friday, September 4, 2026. The lane will be closed from 9:00p.m. to 5:00a.m. during these dates. Please follow all posted detours and exercise extra caution when driving in this area.
