The Village of Winter is again experiencing issues with our lift station on Hwy 70 (near Patti's). Lift stations lift raw sewage from low portions of the Village so it can flow to our treatment ponds. If it is not removed, it can backflow into people's tubs, sinks and basements. These issues are related to non-flushable items being put into our system though the toilets. This problem has become reoccurring and ridiculous and is a public health concern! It is expensive to fix it.
If you live on the north side of Highway 70 along N. Main Street and surrounding areas, please DO NOT flush any items into our system except p**p, p*e and toilet paper! Lance will be monitoring the system day and night until the company can get here to repair it.
If you have any questions please contact our office at 715-266-4721. Impacted businesses and residents will receive a letter with further details soon.

Update: it has been repaired by our amazing community members. Thank you!

If you receive your mail on the corner of Marion and Arntz Streets, the bank of mailboxes has tipped over. We have talked to the post office and have been told that it is the responsibility of the people who have their mailboxes there. For now, Dick from the Village is going to see what he can do to get it standing first thing Tuesday morning so people can receive their mail. If your mailbox has been affected please call the Village office at 715-266-4721 for more information.

In the past few days the Village of Winter has found much hope for a bright future for our community. We are thankful to so many who have sought factual information about the playground, offered ideas and even pledged money. Although people will have their differences and each of us have our own interests, if we all work together we will accomplish great things.
Most recently, thank you to Mark Heizler from Big Chip Tree Service LLC for dropping off another load of mulch and to Joe and Adynn from Wentzel's Yard Care for volunteering to spread it! *This is not easy work! (This will help maintain what we have for the rest of the season, at which time the area will be prepped for replacement.)
The past couple of years have been planned as a “Year of the Playground” for the Village, but each year disaster struck. In 2025 we dealt with 2 broken water mains. This year we went 28 days with one of the lift stations down. (Lift stations move sewage from the lower portions of the Village towards the treatment ponds so it doesn’t backflow into people’s homes.) These were huge hits to our incredibly small budget of just over $300,000 annually. (We are often confused as the Town of Winter or as being part of this much larger municipality but we are our own very small entity). That small budget covers everything we do in a year and emergencies must come first. The playground, although its need for repairs and replacement was discussed regularly at meetings, just had to wait.
Additional information regarding the playground will be discussed at our next regular board meeting on August 12th at 5:00 p.m. We welcome suggestions on this topic. We also encourage anyone to reach out to our office or attend a meeting if you ever have a question, concern or even complaint.
Thank you.

The Village of Winter will provide an update on the plans for the upgrades to Doc Smith Park playground at our next monthly meeting, to be held August 12th, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. After the meeting we will also provide information in the Sawyer County Gazette and on our official page (here).
If you are interested in the project and unable to attend the meeting, please contact our clerk Judy via email ([email protected]) or phone (715-266-4721) with your name and contact information.
We thank a local community member who met with us for information regarding this planned project and look forward to what is to come asap for the playground!
