In the past few days the Village of Winter has found much hope for a bright future for our community. We are thankful to so many who have sought factual information about the playground, offered ideas and even pledged money. Although people will have their differences and each of us have our own interests, if we all work together we will accomplish great things.
Most recently, thank you to Mark Heizler from Big Chip Tree Service LLC for dropping off another load of mulch and to Joe and Adynn from Wentzel's Yard Care for volunteering to spread it! *This is not easy work! (This will help maintain what we have for the rest of the season, at which time the area will be prepped for replacement.)
The past couple of years have been planned as a “Year of the Playground” for the Village, but each year disaster struck. In 2025 we dealt with 2 broken water mains. This year we went 28 days with one of the lift stations down. (Lift stations move sewage from the lower portions of the Village towards the treatment ponds so it doesn’t backflow into people’s homes.) These were huge hits to our incredibly small budget of just over $300,000 annually. (We are often confused as the Town of Winter or as being part of this much larger municipality but we are our own very small entity). That small budget covers everything we do in a year and emergencies must come first. The playground, although its need for repairs and replacement was discussed regularly at meetings, just had to wait.
Additional information regarding the playground will be discussed at our next regular board meeting on August 12th at 5:00 p.m. We welcome suggestions on this topic. We also encourage anyone to reach out to our office or attend a meeting if you ever have a question, concern or even complaint.
Thank you.
