01/07/2020

The new property tax law that was passed in 2019 requires all cities to hold a pre-levy public hearing if there is a potential that the amount of tax revenue received in fiscal year 2021 is more than 2% higher than the amount of tax revenue received in fiscal year 2020. If you have questions please email [email protected] or attend the public hearing on January 20, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall

For clarification purposes, it is not the intent of the council to raise the actual property tax rate. When the valuation of the city increases the amount of tax revenue increases in general. Note - this is not saying that the overall property tax rate is increasing. The overall valuation of the city increased by 10% so the law requires us to hold the public hearing. If the valuation had only increased by 2% this wouldn't be a requirement.

Controlled Burn in lower City Park Monday, December 23.

Beginning around noon on Monday, December 23, a controlled burn will take place in portions of the lower City Park (south of the South Shelter). The burn is part of the City’s ongoing efforts to increase management practices to improve the woodlands. No vehicles will be allowed on the tower road. Hikers shall stay on the road and away from any fire/smoke.
Controlled burns will be an annual practice in City Park lower portion during late fall through early spring as conditions allow. Other practices that we have implemented as part of our adopted City Park Woodlands Conservation Plan include removing a large amount of honeysuckle (invasive species) and thinning out the timber by removing some trees. Please contact the WPRD Office with any questions/concerns at 462-3258.

Today, we remember the 2,977 victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Specifically, we want to remember the 343 firefighters, 60 police officers and 8 EMTs that gave their lives in efforts to save their fellow citizens. As you live and enjoy the breaths you take today and tonight before you go to sleep in preparation for your life tomorrow, kiss the ones you love, snuggle a little tighter, love and appreciate those around you, and never take one second for granted. #NeverForget
