Storm damage - currently there are two roofing companies who have permits to go door-to-door and contact property owners about potential roof damage. They should be wearing masks and complying with all COVID-19 recommendations. Please understand that they are just here to let you know if they see any damage so you can contact your insurance company. Most importantly, you are advised not to sign anything until you have discussed any potential damages with your insurance company. You also are under no obligation to use any particular company, and there are local companies that would like your business as well. Hopefully, all is well and you don't have any damage at all! All the best to you! Stay safe and well!

Madison County Public Health Urges Residents to Continue Social Distancing

While data reflects a plateau in new COVID-19 cases statewide, Madison County has seen a rise in confirmed COVID-19 cases in the past week with a current total of 17 confirmed cases. One of these cases was a positive serology test, which is used to identify a past or recent COVID-19 infection, rather than a current infection. Madison County Public Health and the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) remind residents they play a vital role in stopping the spread of COVID-19, especially now that some restrictions have been lifted.

“Social distancing is a term used to describe certain action public health and individuals can take to stop or slow the spread of an infectious disease,” said Madison County Public Health Administrator Sharon Miller. Individuals can help keep our community safe by practicing social distancing in their everyday lives.

Miller encourages residents to take personal responsibility and determine which activities they feel comfortable resuming. For example, some families may feel more comfortable continuing to order carry out or delivery only, while some may feel ready to dine out. All residents should continue to follow health and safety guidelines and practice social distancing when in public.

All residents should:
• Wear a cloth face covering any time you are in public, ensuring it covers both your nose and mouth.
• Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
• Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your upper arm.
• Avoid groups of people and never gather in a group larger than 10.
• Keep a 6-foot distance between themselves and those around them; for instance, keeping this distance when in a line at the grocery store. A 6-foot distance is about the length of a twin-size bed.
• Stay home even if mildly ill.
• If you are ill at home, isolate yourself from others in your home who are well.

The state of Iowa will be releasing current confirmed case counts in real time at coronavirus.iowa.gov. Residents should check there for information about confirmed cases in Madison County.

Miller says it’s also important to know that about 80% of Iowans infected with COVID-19 will experience only mild to moderate illness. If they feel ill enough that they believe they need to see a health care provider, they should call before going into the office. The provider may have special instructions for their visit.

For up-to-date information on COVID-19, visit www.coronavirus.iowa.gov and follow the IDPH on Facebook at @IowaDepartmentOfPublicHealth and on Twitter at @IAPublicHealth.
