The drug overdose epidemic in the United States is a clear and present public health, public safety, and national security threat. DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day reflects DEA’s commitment to Americans’ safety and health, encouraging the public to remove unneeded medications from their homes as a measure of preventing medication misuse and opioid addiction from ever starting.
On Saturday April 25, 2026 we will be hosting the drug take back in the lobby of the Wintersville Police Department, 200 Grove Street in Wintersville from 10:00am-2:00pm. Please bring all of your unneeded medications so that they do not sit in your cabinet and risk getting into the hands of the wrong person.
We accept all controlled substance medications (scheduled drugs), non-controlled substance medications, over the counter medications, vitamins, syrups, ointments, creams, lotions, and inhalers.
** We will NOT accept any sharps items, thermometers or batteries, medical waste, aerosols, chemicals/disinfectants such as peroxide, or any personal care products.
Aside from the DEA National Rx Takeback Day, CCSO has a drug drop off box in our lobby 24/7/365. Please follow these same guidelines when placing any items in the drop box.

Just a friendly reminder:

The police department has been receiving complaints of vehicles parked on the roadway during snow removal. This is a safety concern, along with the fact our snow plows can't perform the removal of snow properly.

351.14 SNOW REMOVAL PARKING.
(a) There shall be no parking on the streets of the Municipality during snow removal from November 1 through March 15 to ensure snow plows can operate safely and efficiently on Village Streets. Whenever, snow falls in the Village, or in any section thereof, necessitating the plowing or salting of the streets by Village forces residents must not parking on any Village Streets.
(b) All exceptions will be determined by a vote of the Street Committee, and shall be limited to steep driveways, no driveways, handicapped accessibility, and other hardships. If an exception is ruled to exist a pass shall be issued to the applicant that must be displayed in a clearly visible location on the applicant’s vehicle. These passes will be granted at the discretion of the Street Committee. Passes will cost a fee of twenty dollars ($20.00) and this fee must be paid at the time the pass is granted by the Street Committee.
(c) Vehicles parked on the streets in violation of this ordinance will be fined according to subsection (d) of this section if no pass is clearly displayed.
(d) Whoever violates this section is guilty of a minor misdemeanor and shall be fined not less than twenty-five dollars ($25.00).

We are currently dealing with a 10-inch water line break. Due to multiple water line breaks over the past few days, our water tank is now drained. As a result, the entire village may experience low water pressure or possibly no water at all.

Outside contractors, county employees, and our local crews are working diligently to complete the repair as quickly as possible. Cross Creek Township employees are also assisting by keeping the wet roadways salted due to the ongoing water issues.

At this time, there is no estimated time of repair. Please do not panic and conserve water until tank levels are restored and the system returns to normal.

Please keep all of the workers out in this weather in your thoughts as they work to restore service to our community.

Thank you,
Mayor Petrella
