For immediate release:

Today at 11:48am, Winterville Community Fire Department was dispatched for a motor vehicle collision with rollover and ejection on NC 11 South between Winterville and Ayden. Engines 4103 and 4101 responded immediately with volunteers and paid staff and arrived on scene within minutes to discover a single vehicle in the roadway that appeared to have flipped and one patient lying on the ground away from the vehicle. Firefighters shutdown the roadway and provided aid to two patients along with multiple EMS units. Two occupants were transported to ECU Health Medical Center with critical injuries. Special thanks to Ayden Fire/Rescue for responding to help with traffic rerouting while the northbound lanes were shut down for over 2 hours while NC Highway Patrol conducted an investigation.

On Wednesday evening, we responded to an outside that started as a controlled burn. Thankfully, our crews along with neighboring departments arrived quickly and were able to prevent the spread of the fire. While eastern North Carolina is getting some much needed rain, this is just a friendly reminder to always burn safely!

🔥 No burning of material that is not naturally grown in your yard

💦 Always have a water supply nearby

🚫 Never leave a fire unattended

💨 Always consider wind direction and speed

As always, only natural vegetation is allowable to burn. No trash, building materials, etc.
