Methow Valley School District Finishes Second in 2025 2B Scholastic Cup – A Remarkable Climb to the Top Tier
The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) has announced the final standings for the 2025 2B Scholastic Cup, with the Methow Valley School District earning an impressive second-place finish—significantly outpacing every other 2B school district except for this year’s top performer, Freeman School District.
This marks a landmark achievement for Methow Valley, which soared past perennial powerhouses, including four-time defending champion Saint George’s School. Methow Valley’s second-place finish is the highest in district history and reflects a sweeping commitment to excellence across academics, athletics, and student activities.
The WIAA Scholastic Cup is awarded annually to schools that demonstrate the highest levels of achievement in state-level athletic performance, academic team GPA, and sportsmanship. Methow Valley’s strong showing is the result of a unified, district-wide effort to support students in all areas of school life—both inside and outside the classroom.
“Finishing second—and doing so in such a competitive field—is a huge honor,” said Methow Valley School District Activities Director Michael Wilbur. “This reflects not only our students' hard work and talent but also the dedication of our teachers, coaches, and the strong support of our families and community. We're proud of how far we've come.”
Led by multiple state champions, academic award-winning teams, and consistently high levels of sportsmanship, Methow Valley surged ahead of nearly every other 2B district in the state. Only Freeman School District managed to finish higher, taking the top spot.
Methow Valley's success this year was built on strong performances in both athletic and academic arenas. Several teams advanced deep into state playoffs, while academic teams earned top GPA honors. At the same time, the district has made significant investments in arts, extracurriculars, and enrichment opportunities—offered at no cost to families—thanks to partnerships with the Public School Funding Alliance, Liberty Bell Booster Club, Winthrop Kiwanis Club, and local donors.
Since its inception in 2012-13, the WIAA Scholastic Cup has recognized the most well-rounded schools in each classification. Methow Valley’s second-place finish in 2025 stands as a powerful testament to what’s possible when a school district commits to developing the whole-child, equity in opportunity, and continuous growth.
“The Scholastic Cup is more than just a scorecard—it’s a measure of how a community rallies around its students,” added Superintendent Venable. “This year’s result is something we can all celebrate.”
