"On behalf of myself and the entire Town Council, we are devastated by the tragedy that took place in our community on Saturday, June 26th. We first and foremost wish to express our condolences and offer our prayers to the family members and friends of David Green and Ramona Cooper who were the victims of yesterday's tragedy.

The Town Council wishes to thank the Winthrop Police and Fire Departments for their response to yesterday's incident, as well as the many neighboring agencies who responded to assist with the investigation. We would also like to thank the residents near the scene who had supported police while they worked Saturday and into Sunday.

The Town Council is committed to making sure our community members have support and resources available following this traumatic incident. The Town in partnership with the Commission for Diversity, Inclusion and Community Relations; Department of Public Health; Superintendent of Schools; and Police Department, will be working to make counseling available in the coming days.
We also plan to hold a candlelight vigil to remember and honor the victims of this hateful crime on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. in front of Town Hall.

The Winthrop Town Council has no tolerance for hate in Winthrop and we take actions that are rooted in hate very seriously. We strive for unity within the community and will continue to work with our town partners to ensure Winthrop is an accepting and inclusive place for everyone"

Town Council President Philip Boncore

Mosquito Spraying to be Conducted Thursday Evening Along Winthrop Salt Marsh Areas
POSTED ON: JUNE 24, 2021 - 8:35AM

Due to the extreme activity of the salt marsh mosquitoes along the salt marshes and in the Pico beach area (due to heat and rain), the Winthrop Board of Health is ordering a one-time Mosquito adulticide spraying for these localized areas to give residents some relief. According to NEMMC we don't currently have active breeding in the area, but salt marsh mosquitoes are being blown into town; catch basin treatment with larvicide was started on 6/10.

The target areas, aside from Pico Beach Ave & Playground, Sunnyside, also includes Belle Isle Marsh abutting streets, from Pleasant to Golden Drive along Morton St. Sunnyside Ave, Frances St. and Corinha Beach Rd.

If any questions, please contact the Health Department at 617-846-4344

Town of Winthrop Provides Latest Update on Coronavirus Situation

No Confirmed or Presumptive COVID-19 Cases in Winthrop

Town Manager Austin Faison and Director of Public Health & Clinical Services Meredith Hurley would like to inform residents that due to the ongoing COVID-19 public health concerns, Winthrop municipal buildings will be closed to the public to promote social distancing.

"The health and safety of our community is our highest priority," Town Manager Faison said. "With technology and other adjustments, we can still provide our residents with essential services. Please be advised that some Town services may be limited, such as walk-in Town Hall transactions, in-home inspections, and water testing."

The Town of Winthrop will be activating its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) at 8 a.m. Monday, March 16, streamlining the COVID-19 response effort and ensuring the continued delivery of services to residents. Once open, the EOC will remain operational until further notice. The Town’s Emergency Operations Center can be reached at 617-539-5848 Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., or by emailing [email protected].

This evening, Gov. Charlie Baker announced new guidelines for all Massachusetts residents to promote social distancing and help to prevent the spread of COVID-19:

No gatherings of any kind of more than 25 people at one time, in one place
All public and private schools in Massachusetts will close on Tuesday, March 17 until at least April 7.
All bars and restaurants will only be able to serve takeout customers.
"We are asking all residents, business owners and community members to abide by these new guidelines that the governor has put forth," Town Manager Faison said. "Everyone has a part to play in helping to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and following these new guidelines will help in that effort."
