On Monday, August 31, in recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day, empty chairs will be displayed at locations throughout Winthrop. Each chair represents someone whose absence is deeply felt—a family member, friend, neighbor, or loved one lost to substance use or overdose.
Community members who have experienced loss are invited to help personalize the chairs by contributing a photograph, written message, ribbon, flower, or other small remembrance. Together, these mementos will honor the lives behind the numbers and create a visible expression of remembrance, love, and connection.
If you would like to contribute, please see the directions below. We recommend providing copies of photographs and avoiding valuable or irreplaceable items, as the installation will be displayed outdoors.
Every chair holds a story. Every life deserves to be remembered. 💜
