Joint Statement from the Winthrop Town Manager’s Office and the Winthrop Department of Public Health & Clinical Services
The Town of Winthrop mourns the tragic loss of a member of our community, Jackie Berry, following the fatal shooting that occurred on Sunday, May 25, 2026, on Beacon Street in Winthrop. We extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family, loved ones, friends, neighbors, and all those impacted by this devastating event.
We recognize that incidents of violence have a profound effect on individuals, families, and communities. Events such as this can trigger feelings of grief, fear, sadness, anger, and uncertainty. We encourage residents to check in on one another and to seek support if needed.
At this time, the incident remains under investigation by the Winthrop Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, and the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office. We are grateful to the first responders, law enforcement personnel, healthcare professionals, and community members who responded during this difficult situation.
The Town remains committed to supporting the health, safety, and wellbeing of our residents.
